I am forced into speech because men of science have refused to follow my advice without knowing why. It is altogether against my will that I tell my reasons for opposing this contemplated invasion of the antarctic—with its vast fossil-hunt and its wholesale boring and melting of the ancient ice-cap—and I am the more reluctant because my warning may be in vain. Doubt of the real facts, as I must reveal them, is inevitable; yet if I suppressed what will seem extravagant and incredible there would be nothing left. The hitherto withheld photographs, both ordinary and aërial, will count in my favour; for they are damnably vivid and graphic. Still, they will be doubted because of the great lengths to which clever fakery can be carried. The ink drawings, of course, will be jeered at as obvious impostures; notwithstanding a strangeness of technique which art experts ought to remark and puzzle over.

Zircon is kinda old news so all the kerfuffle wouldn't make much sense.

USSR has failed at doing that in a very funny way:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyus_(spacecraft)

quote:

For technical reasons, the payload was launched upside down. It was designed to separate from the Energia, rotate 180 degrees in yaw, then 90 degrees in roll and then fire its engine to complete its boost to orbit. The Energia functioned perfectly. However, after separation from Energia, the Polyus spun a full 360 degrees instead of the planned 180 degrees. When the engine fired, it slowed and burned up in the atmosphere over the south Pacific Ocean.

(Bonus points for doing this in a fairing labeled "Peace")

It’s an understandable capability for them to want to have given the number of space shuttle door gunnners out there.

This is not to drop a nuclear weapon onto Earth but rather to possibly use against satellites.

Apparently two shooters in custody, which makes me think it was two shitheads getting into a gunfight with each other and hitting everyone but the other shooter. Active assailant incidents involving two gunmen are really rare unless two guys decided they wanted to take potshots at Kelce for his proximity to Taylor Swift or something.

The US even hosed around with that during the Cold War with Starfish Prime.

I think the concern might be that Russia is trampling on every nuclear arms limitation treaty in existence.

There’s also video that claims to be people tackling a shooter as well

Starlink would be a very poor target since there is like a zillion of cheapish satellites that are all spread out... Now some of the NROL birds, that would be kinda a big deal.

all this special counsel poo poo is too little, too late. it's clear now that nothing of importance will be settled with convictions before the election. all these prosecutions should have started a year earlier
