So glad I was able to catch this all live, what a night. Goodbye Sting, he was underappreciated for far too long and watching him have one last great run and go out on top was an incredible experience to witness.

Lmao at the guy that asked Sting if in hindsight it was the right thing to split up with his first tag team parter that everybody universally agrees is a total rear end in a top hat What a question. Yeah, sure he wishes he had a totally different career as The Blade Runners indefinitely.

Stuck home with the flu, perfect timing. Time to watch some Revolution! Match #1: Christian Cage (c) vs Daniel Garcia for the TNT Title: Would have been a decent basic level Rampage match, but didn't really work as a PPV match, much less the opener. Both guys are capable of so much better.

Match #2: Eddie Kingston(c) vs Bryan Danielson for the Continental Title I'm always here for an Eddie Kingston King's Road tribute match, and doubly so when it involves Bryan Danielson. This was ... fine. Weirdly sloppy in places, and not nearly as brutal or King's Roady as many other Eddie Kingston matches. Better than the opener, but again both guys are capable of better. Got the crowd going a lot better than the opener, though. Loved the dueling chants, loved Danielson going for the "yes" finger points, and loved Eddie winning.

Match #3: All-Star Scramble I love seeing Powerhouse Hobbs and Lance Archer as much as the next guy, but calling this an All-Star anything is stretching the definition beyond the point of breaking. And I see Wardlow's haircut has somehow become even worse. And yeah, this was exactly what it was going to be: a big dumb spotfest. Some of the spots were more fun than others. Lol at Cage's jumping knee. My dude, you don't have it. Stick to being the huge roid guy. Wardlow's ridiculous lariat still looks like poo poo. And of course Wardlow wins because by god we'll keep shoving Wardlow down everyone's throats until he gets over or retires.

Match #5: FTR vs BCC I am digging the Road Warriors cosplay! I realize I could be falling into the PSP trap, but it feels like this crowd is surprisingly quiet for a match featuring hometown boys FTR. Yeah, they're briefly popping for high spots and they got a dueling chant briefly going a few times, but mostly it sounds like you could hear a pin drop. They were more vocal in earlier matches so it's a bit weird. Holy poo poo, Dax. That's a proper bladejob! But surprisingly Mox isn't bleeding yet. Oh poo poo, that almost Doomsday Device from BCC was a fun idea. And once again the crowd BRIEFLY pop and chant A-E-W but then just immediately quiet down like the voice clip had ended in a video game. God help me but I do love the giant swing + dropkick combo. It just looks so good. And oh boy I bit hard on the Doomsday Device + Shatter Machine combo. Match was fine, the best match so far, but felt a bit off. Like the teams weren't 100% in sync with each other. Good pacing and a fine finish, so it felt like this one had the makings of a classic, but the execution was just a bit off in spots. Or maybe just the weird crowd? I dunno! Shaman Tank Spec fucked around with this message at 15:06 on Mar 4, 2024 |

Match #7: Timeless Toni Storm vs. Deonna Purrazzo for the Women's Title I don't think I've ever seen Purrazzo wrestle before, so here's hoping she isn't another Taya "We swear to god she's actually really good" Valkyrie. And OH poo poo it's not Timeless Toni Storm! It's Extremely Aussie Toni Sto... no wait, it's ... Mariah May in a very accurate Toni Storm cosplay? Good lord this is some pro wrestling right here I am 100% into this. And the crowd seem to be too, good start. Alright OK, Deonna is not another Taya Valkyrie. She is in fact seemingly very good at wrestling. Some good and smooth and chain wrestling from both to start us off. Still into this! And lol at the "you're a butler" chant. Jesus, I still do not know how you take the Hip Attack without loving up your neck or getting a concussion. That head snap back always looks so vicious. Oh no, Luther! Stop trying to help! Oh poo poo, that head scissors takedown into the arm bar is super cool! Hey that was a really good match! Really well paced, fun spots, both wrestlers working their asses off, more please! HM

Match #8: Will Ospreay vs Konosuke Takeshita Holy poo poo, talk about a match I have been wanting to see for a few years now. If this is not good I will be personally crushed. Alright holy poo poo, right from the start we're off to the races. These guys are both so fast, strong and snappy in the ring, it's such a joy to watch them do even simple spots. Holy poo poo that running corkscrew kick off the ropes from Ospreay. Some lady in the audience was making a perfect :O face afterwards and hell, so was I. Holy poo poo that I don't even know what death valley driver sit down bomb and running drop kick combo from Takeshita! OOOF that German from Takeshita had some MUSTARD on it! Jeeeesuss loving christ that sequence right after what the fuuuuuuuuuuck. Wait, ss the crowd chanting "Aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi"? You guys know Essex isn't in Australia, don't you? Never mind that poo poo, holy christ these elbow strikers look vicious. Fuuuuucking hell that Tiger Driver was so crisp and then that Oscutter counter Hah, that near fall spot where both guys collapsed on top of each other and Ospreay just barely rolled over just before three was a ton of fun, had me biting hard. OOOOOOOOOH MY GOD THAT loving AVALANCHE BRAINBUSTER INTO THE BUCKLE FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK OH MY GOD THIS ENTIRE loving SEQUENCE Hell yeah the whole crowd on their feet and rightfully so. Good loving lord, what an absolutely insane match. Both guys are just incredible. MOTYC

I was seriously a bit fatigued after the match just reacting on my sofa, let alone at the arena. And yeah, normally I'd be a bit salty that Takeshita lost, but really, there was no loser in that match. Both looked like a billion bucks and ended up being elevated by the thing.

MATCH #9: "Hangman" Dax Harwood vs Swerve vs Smo Joe(c) for the World Title Aww poo poo, JR's here. If Swerve doesn't win I riot, and it sounds like the crowd agrees with me. Alright, obviously these guys realized that if they're gonna follow up that masterclass they need to GO for it, and they're starting hot. I absolutely love that Joe is the only wrestler who has mastered the advanced counter of "just walk away". Typing is quite hard at this point because they're doing renovations in my building and as a result both of my cats are spooked. Mei is seeking comfort and protection on my lap and I have to try to reach over her. I retract my earlier JR comment. He's not grumpy, he seems into the match, and I just can't hate on a guy who sounds so genuinely happy and grateful to be there. You'd better not be telling the "Swerve is too angry at Hangmin and loses the match because he's too focused on the wrong guy" story I swear to god, Tony. Ah, are they instead telling the "Hangmin is too angry and focused on Swerve" story? Yeah tell that story, Tony. Oh no wait, this isn't the "Swerve is too honourable to cheat and loses the match" story, is it?! It better not be! Oh no, wait. This was the "Tony has a supernova hot guy going for the title, doesn't realize this is the time to pull the trigger", story. gently caress off. Good match, awful result. E: Yes I am the world's most worked man, but like... where do they go from here? Joe feuds with loving Wardlow while Page gets "suspended" so he can heal? And then run the match back in a few months for Swerve's win? Shaman Tank Spec fucked around with this message at 16:26 on Mar 4, 2024 |

Match #10: Sting gently caress off, Ric Flair. Yeah I get that him and Sting have history, but the only reason I wouldn't call the guy a human piece of poo poo is because that would be doing a disservice to pieces of poo poo. lol at the Young Bucks' pornstar look though. I am glad they are back to being heels, because they are incredible at it. Them winning the titles in Sting's retirement match feels like a foregone conclusion because the guy is retiring, what the hell are you gonna do, let him hold on to the belt? But then again maybe Tony is going for a "well what now?" angle with Darby technically still being the champions but not having a partner anymore? Which is to say, I genuinely do not know who's winning! Nice video package. Jesus, Sting's had a great run in AEW, hasn't he? Imagine if he'd retired after the shitshow that was his spite-booked WWE run and we'd have missed out on ~all this~. Aww gently caress, "it's showtime" and here come my tears. Tony you can make me the world's most worked and angry guy as much as you want just because you gave us this Sting run. Aww, Sting's sons. gently caress yeah, SEEK AND DESTROY! AND FLYING DARBY! Oh my god, imagine if this match is just three minutes of Sting's Large Adult Sons and his Small Adult Son working over the Bucks and pinning them? No. Instead it's going to be a typical Sting AEW match. Good lord, man, you're 65 years old, put the glass away! GOOD LORD, MAN! YOU'RE 65 YEARS OLD, QUIT GETTIN' SUPLEXED OFF THINGS THROUGH THINGS! Hmm, Sting's been gone for a while after that spot, would be a good time to get new face paint and come out again as another Sting. I agree, gently caress the Young Bucks! BOOO! BOOOOO! BOOO! Oh no, Darby is going to do something incredibly stupid and dangerous, isn't he? Oh no, that loving giant ladder nooooooo oh god no. JESUS FUCKIG CHRIRST Never mind, Sting's back and still the scorpion. Aaand now he's climbing the loving incredibly tall ladder no. Oh good lord. No not the glass. The man is 65 years old for gently caress's sake! loving hell, why is Ric Flair blue? Motherfucker looks like Papa Smurf. Darby, half covered in blood, steaming out like a missile to save Sting is an insane visual. YEAH! STING WINS! STIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING! loving hell that was the perfect send off. Truly, seriously, thank you, Tony. Sting's been one of my favourite wrestlers for as long as I've been watching wrestling, and it was so loving cool to see him get this run in AEW, and to go out like the loving legend he is. MOTYC

I mean yeah that was a cool spot for sure, but it feels like unless they immediately run this back (and why would they with the way the match went what with Hangmin doing all the suspension spots) it won't hit as hard.
