Supposedly they’re doing a Bumblebee from Transformers to go with the Optimus later this year.

Trip Report from the Fox/Owl/Squirrel It's a cool set, I built the owl and ended up one-piling it after I was asked to open five bags in four steps.

I'm still waiting on the fox to arrive and kind of forgot it was a 3-in-1 cause I plan to display it as the fox. Wondering if I should briefly do the alt models first then.

Anyone built Rivendell? Tempted to use my tax return/insiders point to finally splurge on it. It seems fantastic, but curious about the actual build.

I'm new to the GWP party, the current Flower Store says it is the first of four. Does that mean the next 3 will be these stores, or do they usually spread them out with others in between? I am just planning when I want to make my next big purchase, I used to do them in physical stores!

My Animal Crossing sets arrived today, and my daughter has decided to build them all. The minifigs range from 'pretty good' to 'that ain't right,' but she's enjoying the building the scenery a lot.

ah crap, the Bumblebee set looks like the Michael Bay version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ew6vrpKV4p8 I am disappoint. I was going to put him next to Optimus in my cabinet E: Hmm maybe not, it looks like that's just art that's been used for the video thumbnail. Fingers crossed. My daughter dumped all of her savings from her piggy bank onto her bed and was counting it all up. I asked her what she was planning to buy and she pulled out her Lego pricelist of planned purchases. She just got the cat playhouse today. Theater is next. I bought the ornithopter for my husband as a surprise present when we finally get to go see Dune 2 this weekend, eee! Lego family best family

That's seriously adorable, and minus the piggy bank pretty much how I manage my hobby, keeping a spreadsheet with upcoming releases, what I'd be willing to pay for them, how badly I want them, et cetera. Anyway, new Ideas competition is out. 1980s theme, with previously used IPs (Tron, Indiana Jones, et cetera) explicitly barred.

I recently finished the ornithopter, its so loving cool. never thought we would see a dune lego tie in, how unexpected and cool. When I bought it, it was sold out everywhere except for a single one at a barnes and noble a few towns over. I reserved it and when i went to go pick it up, the guy at the counter asked for my ID and then radioed his manager to get it from the back room like they were handing off some kind of secret equipment. I thought that was amusing.

It's a shame you have to build the submissions in studio, that software is so annoying to use. Limited physical brick amounts aside, it's so much easier (and obviously more enjoyable) to just keep putting bricks together until it looks like it should. Oh wait I read the rules again and I can submit photos of actual bricks. Hmmmm. Saithir fucked around with this message at 12:54 on Mar 7, 2024 |

To be fair the lettering is done really well. But I can't stop trying to figure out who would lay out their wall hangings like that. Lego your set designs are rad, but your home designs are baaaad.

Meanwhile I've built yet another F1 thingy. I've bought myself the cheaper Cada Alfa Romeo. I paid like an equivalent of 18 dollars for it, which is not a bad price for 271 licensed (though not Lego original) pieces. Someone lately was asking if they're good enough, so I might as well write a bit about it. Not gonna build a MOC for this one though, because it's even bigger in scale than the Speed Champions. The build was pretty okay, a bit blocky but it's not a big build, so really hard to get all the curves right. There aren't really any fancy building techniques apart from this, which I thought was hilarious: Both front and back suspensions use the mechanic tools in them - the front has the hexagonal wrench, the back one pictured here has the regular one and later on there are also screwdrivers attached to the wheels for the last bit. It also means I get two halves of a tools set leftover to use, because those come as a pack on a sprue. The instructions... are. They're definitely a step back from Lego but there were only a few instances where I had to stop and think for a moment and maybe look at a next page or two to see how it should go together. The piece quality on the other hand is very good. They clutch nicely, everything fits together like it should, nothing wants to fall off, and really the only difference I could see is that the recent Lego pieces have a lot of visible injection marks on them and the Cada ones don't. What I disliked was the stickers though. Like I get it, it's a licensed F1 set, it's gonna have stickers all over it, but somehow it feels a bit too much... The only printed part is the little info plaque, everything else is a sticker, there are even some that go across multiple parts, like the ones that go on the engine cover with the driver number or the Italian flag on the back wing. So if you thought your BMW had a lot of these, think again They even have stickers for tires, which was a bit disappointing - they don't want to hold onto the rubber in any way, so I gave up after trying to do just one of them (and there are 8 stickers for those, because the insides of the tires are also supposed to have markings). I could try my best, but since they're the hard slick tire markings on a clearly non-slick tire, I don't really give a poo poo. Maybe in a few years Cada will figure out how to print more than one piece per set. So in one sentence, which I think sums up most of the non-Lego sets I've personally seen: I don't hate it.
