The idea of things being framed for Tiktok isn't that far fetched - especially with Tiktok Crow here. The entire pop scene right now is built upon sound bytes that work on Tiktok.

Kubrick didn't use symmetrical composition in 2001 because it would look better on TV, but it did get shown on TV within the next few years and the edits TV studios made to it (in one case they showed it letterboxed, but in the black space they put a fake starfield lol) pissed him off so much that he shot his last three movies with protection for both TV and cinema format. Those three movies look good in both aspect ratios, but he did do it very specifically because he wanted control over how they would look on TV and home video.

Ah guess I remembered it wrong. I wonder if the starfield cut exists on a vhs rip with the commercials still intact.

I watched Part One last week because We Hate Movies did a commentary track for it. It was absolute garbage with no redeeming qualities. Not even gonna bother watching the trailer for Part Two.

Sorry, are you looking forward to a new movie getting the Snydercut treatment? Please don't subject us all to more conversations about the potential of Snyder's unalloyed vision untethered from the demands of the Big Evil Studio.

Although I don’t think Netflix is the big bad studio here in this case. They decided on this way from the get go

Who is "they"? If it's Netflix, wouldn't they be the big bad studio? I don't think Snyder decided to chop his own movie up from the get go.

I could swear Snyder said in that Rogan interview that the reason for the PG-13 version was that Netflix wanted it, and that allowing a later R-rated version was part of the deal. But I'm not about to go back and rewatch that to find the clip.

I did find this quote from somewhere else.

quote:

In the summer, you’ll get to see what I [first] pitched them, basically. And then you’ll get to pretend to be the studio executive and go, ‘Oh geez, I see what they mean. So that’s the full odyssey.'

And a quote from Johnstad, the co-writer, seemingly about Netflix's decision:

quote:

“At some point, there was a business decision of, ‘How can we have more eyes? How can we have more people experience this?’” Johnstad says. “And that’s just part of Hollywood. People make these decisions all the time.”

So it seems he was mandated to make a PG-13 cut.

Yes but he agreed to it to get another cut later. It was planned from the start.

I feel like someone is gonna argue with me about it.

https://www.wired.com/story/rebel-moon-director-zack-snyder-on-violence-loss-and-extreme-fandom/

quote:

They understood from the beginning, “Oh, you’re gonna want to do a director’s cut.” The director’s cut was a prerequisite for making the movie for the first time ever, so my joy at making the two-hour PG-13 version was much greater.

Why are you so mad about a director having the wherewithal to mandate a director's cut into their contract?

I'm not "so mad", I'm just rolling my eyes that this movie, which is already 2 hours and 15 minutes long, somehow needs to be even longer. You'll forgive me if I've heard enough about Zack Snyder's directors cuts to last me a few lifetimes.

Disney Jr. Jedis are a little weird though. I mean that's the story, but feels a little YA.
