Gonz posted:The Sith, in the olden times of the Republic, were rogue Jedi who broke off in a great schism from the Jedi (after deciding that the Light side was weak and the dark nature of the Force was the key to salvation), and they set up shop with their own Sith Order on the planet Korriban. The only time Darth Bane appeared onscreen (in The Clone Wars as a ghost) he was voiced by Mark Hamill.

And dozens upon dozens of other stuff since then… Why do so many Japanese directors do multiple movies and shows a year? The output ends up feeling rushed and cheap instead of thought out. Like Takashi miike literally has 56 credited movies since Audition. That’s not including his tv output.

There's a long history of the Japanese making films very fast. I've seen entire film series from the 60s and 70s with 4 or more films all of which came out in maybe 2 years. Like the gritty Yakuza knife fight series Outlaw Gangster VIP series has six films five of which were released in 1968. The sixth in 1969. In one of the films the main character goes to a café or bar he went to in the first film and is like "wow I haven't been here in years." I also think that even above the line film people in Japan don't make that much money, aside from a select few of the most successful, and this means they have to work a lot if they want to make a living.

I have total respect for creative folks who can churn out movies quickly. Korean indie filmmaker Hong Sang-soo is probably my favorite director and the dude makes like two movies a year. And they’re all bangers!

This was a big thing that people were ignoring when bragging about Godzilla Minus One's budget. Like yeah, a lot of Hollywood budgets are pretty inflated for the purposes of executive paychecks but also those guys making the Godzilla weren't making that much

"The actual members of the Hong Kong National Baseball Team appear in the film as themselves, in a story set in 2004. Their isolated existence leads them to take unconventional choices in both love and friendship, and to summon great courage in the face of their lonely and disconnected existence. The story focuses on the easy-going, yet often detached, main character, Ronnie, as played by Ron Heung, and his friendships and relationships with others, both on and off the sports field." Actually sounds pretty interesting.
