the funniest one is definitely solo max level newbie, where there's a tower rather than gates but the world comes together to form weirdly influential private guilds over the course of a week for no apparent reason. none of these guilds have any particular achievements because the mc hogs absolutely everything, but they are still treated as though they are as important as their equivalents in other korean portal fantasies.

"The S Classes that I Raised" is p good for those kind of ones. Story has kept interesting and its been pretty funny especially of late. The characters are a bit more engaging / interesting than the average level gate/regressor type of webtoons.

They change the art style and everything and it feels heavily influenced by alien/gygax rather than the generic DnD enemies

If you're on the lookout for something new in the manhwa scene, you've got to check out "Dreaming Freedom." It's this captivating mix of a psychological thriller with a romantic twist crafted by 2L. What's really cool about it is how it juggles a bunch of intense themes like obsession, mystery, and even some dark romance, yet somehow throws in a bit of cuteness, too. It's an unusual combo, but it works amazingly well. Also, if you're okay with manhwa porn, I've read some of those too. They might not be for everyone, but if you're into manhwa, you should look at "Secret Class" and "Queen Bee." These are my favorites because they have really good stories and some more grown-up scenes. They're worth reading for the stories as well as the other stuff. Latest chapter of 'Legend of the Northern Blade' has got to showcase one of the most powerful techniques to date The art of the concerned father-figure. But it's good that blood guy is finally dead and gone although I don't 100% fault Jin nor the shaman's spirit for wanting to decimate the head. Martial arts and blood magic can sometimes make decapitation more of an inconvenience than a killing blow.

Killer Pietro is a fun, extremely violent series imo. Its basically john wick except the MC is 70 and running a bookshop and his former boss puts a hit out on him despite him even having cancer and in the ensuing flee he regresses to when he was 18 so nobody recognises him and he decides to get revenge. Sure it makes no sense but has good action and is quite funny considering all the murder In a similar vein I've liked Return of the blood thirsty police which is somewhat similar where an assassin is told he can leave the organisation after a final kill which he does but they finish him off anyway and he resurrects in the body of a cop except he has no social skills whatsoever so his chief takes him under his wing to both take out the organisation and turn him into a real person both on asura scans obviously

an oldie, but i started up seoul station's Necromancer. totally lost on telling the difference between it and other "I was trapped in a dungeon for x years and came back OP to a now monster filled korea" but the starting arcs are always a good popcorn session

that's because there isn't a difference. they all have the exact same setting.

only differences really are how likeable the characters are and how good the artwork is. I think i'm more astounded by how many of these are based off web novels or that there is a large enough market in korea to keep them going. i read way too many while making GBS threads because it feels a suitable place for it and even i'm losing track of stuff

read a few chapters of Rescue System, a returner manga where a firefighter goes back in time with a Systems Cheat power and now is able to save those he couldn't before. neat premise, but the main character acts so stupid in how he goes about it, it just annoys me so much. like he's drawing up diagrams and plans in the open at work like "fire here" "big fire here" and stuff like that. And with his suspicious luck in finding victims out of nowhere, everyone's gonna think he's the one starting fires or emergencies on purpose, is like be more smart about it!

Hey yall, I'm a web novel normie but had a couple of questions if you don't mind. 1) a couple of years ago, I read some of the 3 Body Problem manhwa. Now that the show is out on Netflix I was considering getting back into it, but it's surprisingly hard to understand the best place to buy it, or even how many chapters are actually out. Is it well regarded? Where is the best place to read or buy it? I see it on webnovel.com but it looks a little sketchy, I guess... 2) Around that same time I got into UnOrdinary on WebToon. It got kind of boring when they were trying to figure out about the whole... vaccine that gives your powers back and they go to the enemies science lab or whatever... anyways! At that time I was buying coins on Webtoons. Which went fine. I even purchased them using my Apple ID so there is a record of the purchases. However, I go back now and it seems like I somehow wasn't logged in, and they let you buy coins while not being logged in, so if that device gets reset, you just... lose the coins forever and never had an account? This matters to me now because I just read all the way current in Omniscient Reader's Perspective in like 4 days (couldn't do jack poo poo for a few days, long story). It's great. I enjoy it greatly. But it really seems like my coins were lost in the ether. And I don't want to give more money to a website that seems to have lost my coins...?!?! So... am I right here? Do they really let you buy coins without logging in, and then they just disappear into nothing if something happens to that copy of the app on that device? It just seems so insanely shady and it makes me not want to give them any more funds... if I complained would they reinstate my coins...? --- e: I guess that leads me to a final question, which is, most manhwa/webtoon platforms seem... like they're based around fairly predatory models? Is that weird to say? Can I somehow subscribe to a platform that is similar to like, Viz/Shonen Jump, where I pay a flat fee? Why is this industry so... slimy... sorry not trying to be offensive I am just confused. I don't enjoy the daily experience of having to interact with these slimy-seeming platforms and I am definitely a little worried about having my credit card out there on some of them. you mean the coins things. i don't know what site your talking about, cause there's a lot. That's just the model I guess, assuming its one of the more legit ones that actually sign authors up with permission and give a small cut back to the authors. i think if you look, there's plenty of hub sites that you can read it all for free though, depending on the title. check out the Omniscient Reader webnovel if you like the webtoon. i think the whole thing you can read for free on https://www.lightnovelworld.co/novel/orv-wn-16091308/chapters

they're all poo poo when it comes to paying for content but amazingly webtoons is the least poo poo in that it lets you catch up for free. All of the others want you to pay after you read like 3 chapters or something stupid

Re-reading the last chunk of 'The Legend of the Northern Blade' and man is this moment still great as well. In a series where a lot of people enter the fray in cool fashion, this one is in the top 3. We learned Moyong was immortal fairly early and the Night leader using the Demon of Song's disciple as a new body was also signposted as well. That the two are brothers came as no huge shock all things considered but it's still a huge reveal.

I really should start looking into Korean stuff at some point soon. Some of it even seems popular enough these days to the point of hitting mainstream audiences. I've even seen bloody supermarkets here selling Solo Leveling volumes around here, though I've no idea how good it actually is. The OP is from a decade ago: are the recommendations there still some of the best? What's a shorter work that combines great storytelling and art?

That Works posted:Gosu for somewhat shorter Murim era type stuff. I was pretty confused by what you were trying to say here, but looking up "Murim" cleared it up: quote:Murim is a term used in Korean martial arts to refer to a specific type of martial arts training known as “military martial arts.” These martial arts were developed by the military during the Joseon Dynasty era (1392-1868) and were primarily focused on practical combat techniques and self-defense. Unlike other martial arts, such as taekwondo or judo, which are based on sporting principles, murim emphasizes real-world applications of technique and strategy. So, Gosu is a story in that Joseon era, and I just learned a bunch of stuff I had no idea about. Saoshyant posted:I was pretty confused by what you were trying to say here, but looking up "Murim" cleared it up: There is a new Webtoon revamp of Shin Angyo Onshi, the art is no better or worse, imo, just moved from manga style pages to webtoon format and done in color. I haven't gone far enough with the new version to know how different they are, but the new version might be more your jam, its ongoing. Island part 2 is also the same thing, a modern color webtoon remake of the original Island, a black and white page format. Ive been reading this one (it comes out slowly) but its a good ghost / demon story set in present day. I forgot to mention but one of my more favorite manwhas is "Terror Man", unique interesting art style, special abilities kind of story meets gangland drama between Korea and Russia. It ties into a greater universe of stories in the "Superstring" universe, kind of like the marvel extended universe in the comics / films. Island Pt 2 is in it and you see a few crossover characters.

OP recommendations are still solid, though Yureka & Id were a bit novel at the time there are probably better options nowadays for respective genres. Here are some random popular ones I like without much tying them together other than good art: Finished Peerless Dad - Murim, shares a world with other works by the same author Solo Leveling - Isekai Ongoing Omniscient Reader - Isekai Chronicles of the Northern Blade - Murim Eleceed - Superpowered highschoolers The Breaker - Modern murim. Order goes Breaker->New Waves->Eternal Force Saoshyant posted:I was pretty confused by what you were trying to say here, but looking up "Murim" cleared it up: Murim is a popular genre of martial arts story, not necessarily restricted to one time period though most are. It's a kind of standard fantasy setting more than a historical thing. Like how the common medieval fantasy setting with knights and wizards looks vaguely like medieval Europe, but not really.
