My whole life, Trump has just been a punchline. Like you said, just an imitation of luxury that simply existed for the entertainment value. He was only ever relevant in the 80s and 90s because supermarket check-out tabloids made money off of him as kind of a pre-internet clickbait. He was always just kind of a live action roleplaying businessman character that never dropped the act. All of his business ventures were just repackaged items that he found laying about that he slapped his name on with no further effort. HIs lovely steaks were a good example of this. He's never invented anything or revolutionized an industry. It was always completely hollow. Boomer brains and some of their dumber offspring never understood that. Trump himself never actually understood that he was never meant to be taken seriously, so he's as much a true believer as his cult is. 'The Apprentice', which never bothered to explicitly state that Trump was just a character on a show certainly didn't help. His "brand" has always been sham nonsense.

Back in 2005 a guy I worked with once took the day off because he had tickets to see Trump speak at some seminar about how to be successful. The rest of us tried to point out that the whole thing was a scam and you’re just paying to hear a famous jerk brag about being rich. But he was convinced that Trump had some formula for success that he was going to share and not just pocket a bunch of suckers’ money. He’s a great business genius! Haven’t you watched the Apprentice?

When you think of stock as a piece of paper everything makes more sense: the insiders who literally printed them are selling the worthless pieces of paper to idiots.

The idea that a stock's price on an exchange actually matters at all is mostly only true for large, high-volume stocks because otherwise it's almost always just pieces of paper being marketed that have no actual value today or in the future. Some stocks don't even offer the promise of a dividend, lol, so the idea is that you'll be able to sell the stock to a greater idiot than you. There are notable exceptions, but there's a reason most people say "do not touch IPOs, most of the money to be made has already been made by the time it goes public".

Grimey Drawer
Here's the buy at $22.75...not enough volume at that price to move the needle as some people were hoping. Doubt it'll hit the $24+ they were hoping for, which means a net loss for speculative traders.

That's a bad, bad sign.

edit: If we don't see a bounce to at least $23.50 and if it continues to hover around $22.75, expect a big sell off as the gamblers hoping for easy money cut their losses and more true believers buy in. Closing under their initial 52 week low of $22.55 would be a lol tho

Just the fact that Trump's magnum opus, 'The Art of the Deal', wasn't even written by him should be an end-all be-all deal breaker for people curious about him being a "businessman" and what tips he has to offer. I'm not convinced Trump has even read it himself.

quote:

Supreme Court conservatives appear skeptical of January 6 obstruction charge

From CNN's John Fritze

The Supreme Court's conservative majority appeared skeptical of a charge federal prosecutors have lodged against hundreds of people who attacked the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

While the court’s three-justice liberal wing signaled support for the charge, the conservative majority raised a series of skeptical questions about its potential scope and whether it would criminalize other conduct, such as protests.

A decision against the government could reopen some 350 cases in which defendants have been charged with “obstructing” an official proceeding by pushing their way into the Capitol in 2021. The charge can tack up to 20 years onto a prison sentence.

Joseph Fischer, a former Pennsylvania police officer and January 6 defendant who brought the case to the Supreme Court, argued that the law at issue, created in response to the Enron scandal in 2001, was intended to stop witness tampering, not riots.

During more than an hour and a half of arguments, Chief Justice John Roberts and Justices Brett Kavanaugh, Neil Gorsuch and Samuel Alito were among those who appeared to take issue with the government’s reading of the law.

Welp!
