Yeah it's a weird rule but the game isn't officially over without the repatriation of the game puck. The fourth period will just have to start tomorrow afternoon I guess.

Its been happening in most sports over the last few years. In the NHL I think Minnesota and Tampa have done it once or twice for big games. Nashville seems to be the only one doing it consistently, even outside the playoffs.
