Yeah I’m already thinking of ways to use my miniatures paints to customize it to make it look more “realistic”.

My department is dressing up as Ghostbusters this Halloween so one of my coworkers will be sporting it (I’ll be rocking the Haslab pack and wand). I’ve also got a near-complete set of vintage Real Ghostbusters gear that some lucky coworkers will get to use in case the Haslab PKE meter and Ghost Trap don’t arrive before Halloween. I don’t intend to repaint the vintage stuff, I think it’s funnier if it’s grown adults sporting old kids’ toys. :v:

Having 4 (5 if you count Janine, and you should) grown adults fully cosplay as the RGB characters is

It is WAY better than I thought it would be. It’s got more sounds than the Haslab pack and wand (it even includes all 4 firing modes the Spengler wand has). It’s a very tactile experience like the Spengler wand because you press one button to turn it on and select your firing mode, then you extend the barrel (and cocking it one-handed like a shotgun to extend the barrel makes me feel like an enormous badass), then you hold down a different button to charge it (and it’s possible to overcharge it), and then you pull a trigger to fire. It’s got overheating and venting sounds, sounds of you zapping different ghosts, different colored lights all over the place, I genuinely feel like I ripped somebody off by getting this thing for $10. I’d have paid full retail without hesitation if I knew what it could do. I am seriously impressed.

Yeah this thing is pretty nice. I bought one for my daughter, and then bought another one for myself, to strip the electronics out of it for putting into my own proton pack wand. Still trying to figure out what I'll do for putting it in, but yeah the lights and sound effects are pretty nice.

It's really easy to remove the gray barrel extension part, which immediately gives the toy a more classic styled look, but the part does control that power up noise, so alas.

I just read the first issue of the Ghostbusters: Back in Town comic book. It's far from a masterpiece but there are a few jokes and character moments that work well imo.

I bought my light/sound kit from a sight called Rabid Prototypes and he is doing a kickstarter to restart production. I'm happy really happy with mine* so I thought I'd post a link.

There might be cheaper options out there for a complete pack though, I haven't looked.

*I had to manufacture my own mounts to integrate them into my frame, but that was fun.

sucks to be right
I just noticed that a lot of the advertising for the film atm features this specific formation of the cast:

Rudd, Murray and Wolfhard are given the most prominent spots, Hudson and Grace are shoved off to the side and don't even get to hold a neutrona wand, Potts didn't even make it onto the Blu-ray cover

Saw the movie this weekend and it felt serviceable: not great but it was a movie. It suffered a bit from the overly large cast, what with introducing new characters and giving the old folks more screentime. On the upside, there's a vibe that it corrects one thing the original movie did, namely sidelining Winston and it lets Ernie Hudson be the actually successful and together guy of the original group.

The films should stop trying to make Slimer a thing, it didn't work in Ghostbusters 2 and it was always the worst part of the animated series too.

i remember leaving the theater thinking about how much better the next movie would be if they really passed the baton, for real this time.
when it gets to the point where the new guys share the screen with the old guys twice in a row, it doesn't exactly make your reboot feel committal.
this might be sacrilege to say but perhaps it's time for the remaining og actors to take a step back from the screen and focus on tight writing/production.

That might require having unique or new ideas and Ghostbusters is forbidden from doing that

The GB fandom is so weirdly adverse to new stuff, yet constantly complaining they want new stuff, but always “not like that”.

I mean I'm honestly not sure they are, it's just that new stuff isn't really offered outside of the cartoon. The closest outside of that is like 2016 and the backlash from that was a lot more about there being FEEEMALES than anything else and I'm not sure that speaks for the whole fandom. I don't think there's much complaint about them introducing new characters in the newer movies except for the fact they are overshadowed by old people cameos and callbacks to the original film.

It would be genuinely interesting to see a Ghostbusters thing that just... disposed of all of it. No Slimer, no Slime, No Stay Puff, No Gozer, no Bill Murray or Dan Ackroyd and (as loathe as I am to say it) no Ernie Hudson either. Specifically avoid retreading the same ground on any level that isn't "Exterminators but for Ghosts and it's funny, also Proton Packs are cool."

Ghostbusters IS Murray, Ackroyd, Ramis, and Hudson. People refuse to admit it, saying "oh why not do a new story?" but it's just people catching ghosts. That's not a story or a franchise. That's why putting the Ecto 1 into a movie, putting all women into a movie doesn't work.

The only true Ghostbusters movie they could do is with the old guys.

I refuse to believe there is no way 4 actors could be funny together in a ghost movie unless it was those four.

I'd love a new RGB show. Same characters, though different actors, and they're doing their thing. Literal monster of the week with maybe a season-long arch leading up to a big finale. Get someone who's as imaginative as JMS, if not JMS himself.

The first movie had a very small target to hit but only because it was the first one and in the early '80s.

But I do think that the current state of comedy in Hollywood is pretty dire overall so until that changes I don't really have a whole lot of confidence in new GBs.
