don't artists on spotify get paid per stream, so if you rip the stream out to a file once they only get paid a fraction of a penny once

who gives a poo poo about spotify themselves but yeah as far as the artists are concerned it's just piracy

I just want a way to stream SiriusXM on my PC that isn't their crappy website, since it ignores my keyboard media keys. Can't find a desktop app to do it. Can't find a phone app to do it. Open your API, cowards! :argh:

A DAC that has Bluetooth input would do it. They tend to be expensive, though.
Another way I've done it before I had this DAC was to stream via Bluetooth from the phone to the computer. But, it only worked in Linux since windows is an idiot that thinks that Bluetooth can only be used for output, not input.

Ahh, okay, I wasn't aware that's how artists were paid out in Spotify. I'll try to work with it for now then. I'm just not happy with these "features" that keep getting added which hurt the listening experience.

Man, the music industry sucks. Pay your loving artists.

Weather prediction is getting worse at this the world over thanks to climate change. Old models are not able to predict things because it's all too broken.

For what it's worth, the Google poo poo seems to be most reliable for me, and searching, they just use Environment Canada data.

Yesterday I asked Google if it would rain at all that night. "Nope, no chance of rain".

Was 1.5 miles away with the dog on our walk when the storm hit. Super fun, A+ especially with a dog that hates getting wet.

Down here in Oz the better weather predictions are from the Australian bureau of meteorology but (at least last I checked) Google uses one of those global weather services instead that isn't as good at forecasting locally so we gotta just manually use the BoM app.

Birds do not want you to know any more than you already do.
Install multiple weather apps that all use different sources/ensemble preferences; make your own ensemble out of their ensemble forecasts

One of the nice things about Windy is that you can switch between forecast models. This morning NAM and HRRR disagreed between rain all day and just cloudy.

It has its flaws, but I still rely on Weather Underground. They use the National Weather Service, have a lot of hyperlocal weather stations here, and their radar/storm tracking is really good. The website is better than the phone app, but the app is decent enough.

This is what I use when I need it to be really accurate. I'm near Lake Michigan and the temperature can drop like 10 degrees in that half mile.

I heard on a podcast that all revenue is divided based on the total streams.
If you only listen to The Strokes for a month, you might expect that all your :10bux: for that month will go to them. But no, your :10bux: gets added to the total. And say Taylor Swift has 40% of all streams that month, then she'll get Y% of the total revenue.

Today Weather is a great front-end and lets you choose your weather source. I just keep it on Weather Canada and it hasn't been too bad. I do miss the hyper local forecasts from Dark Sky, that rocked.

https://weatherian.com/#/ is nifty because it compares various models, although for where I am many of them are European, not sure that that matters though.

There's a link to its entry in fdroid on there. I just, in principle, post the git repo for open source stuff when possible.

Not sure what the benefit to the developer would be to have their free app on the play store. If the app were full of ads, user tracking or in app purchases, sure.

I don't want to install a 3rd party app store and permit APK installs on my phone, hence I was asking why that app wasn't on the play store. It's a perfectly legit question which is still not answered.

I'm guessing the benefit would be that a significantly larger pool of people have a chance to discover and use the app. If they don't care about that, why even release it on f-droid? Just pretentiously release nothing but source code so only the truly deserving users who know how to compile from source can install it.

Because you're being super aggro that a small developer isn't using the Play Store (there are many possible reasons for this, but as was pointed out the dev isn't here). fdroid is not inherently insecure or "sketchy" but you do you.

Answered by the developer here: https://github.com/breezy-weather/breezy-weather/blob/main/INSTALL.md

fdroid apps are the opposite of sketchy because their submission process guarantees that the APK you download was built from the public source code with nothing else snuck in

the app developer submits the source code, fdroid builds it themselves, and releases that

I appreciate that, but there's a long list of potential issues: https://privsec.dev/posts/android/f-droid-security-issues/

I think I'll avoid it for now, but appreciate the answers.
