At what point do we get Torture Kitchen, where talented chefs spin a wheel a wheel and have to cook in freezing temperatures or while constantly getting hit by pies.

Cutthroat Kitchen had a good strategy, which was be on the show with two chefs who hated each other and do nothing in round 1 while they were extra spiteful, then go hard the rest of the game and walk out with like $3000

They all said some variant of "Chef X is my biggest competitor so I'd better make sure I send them a challenge" when the point of the loving game isn't to win, it's not not lose the round you loving moron aaaaaaa I'm 100% convinced they were told by production to spread the sabotages around so you get a more even show instead of piling everything on one person like they should.

There's a controversy in NYC over Danny's dish in the latest episode - it's an actual copy past of a chou farci dish made by Victoria Blamey, the current chef of Blanca. I worked with her and she's an absolutely terrible person who should be canceled ASAP but it's pretty crazy how he copied every detail.

Copying the recipe is one thing, imagine that's happening all the time on the show. Promoting the winning dish by using a photo of the original and passing it off as your own... that's pretty straightforwardly lovely. edit: although, apparently the plot thickens, quote:In the Resy piece, Blamey uses “we” rather than “I” in discussing the creation of the dish, and cites Garcia’s role in helping create it: “This one is funny. We were working on a monkfish for the longest time, wrapped in seaweed with this scallop mousse. We kept going back thinking that we liked it, but we were not extremely happy with it. So, I said ‘You know what? What if we start working on the mousse itself?’ Our executive sous chef Daniel Garcia has this really good recipe, so I said, ‘What if we make it around the mousse?’ from https://ny.eater.com/2024/5/3/24148009/top-chef-victoria-blamey-danny-garcia-stealing-a-dish Always cite your inspirations & collaborators kiddo's. If they essentially created the dish together it seems a bit extreme to accuse him of stealing it and not mention that fact.

The editing isn’t as tight, the production is a bit crap and it’s missing the (fake) community spirit of Gourmet Makes. But it nails the nerdiness and delivers on the core gimmick. Once they make a few of this and the algorithm really catches on, she’ll be rolling in the dough.

I'd feel worse for her if she didn't have such a strong branding boost from the BA stuff, but imagine that villain edit still haunts her. Will say her chocolate chip cookie recipe was pretty good, but I haven't checked out any of the solo stuff. Post-BA stuff for all of them still doing YT videos has that post-Beatles stink of just not being the same without the (real and/or fake) camaraderie those series had. One's that did well seem to have joined other orgs or left that world - Sohla did well to start doing tv shows, Priya partnered with the NYT, Molly got a couple fan-tastic cookbooks... Happy for her tho. Speaking of, been a few years since Reply All self-immolated trying to cover the BA breakup. Have to imagine we get at least one documentary on it in the next few years.

Four days late and you've probably already watched it but it's a little of both. The end product isn't super fancy but is just made with more premium ingredients, and there's no faffing about with extraneous bullshit like I remember some of the GM episodes having. Nobody tries to get her to make paper sleeves for the cones, for example. I am looking forward to seeing one episode where she tries to make puffed wheat or rice or corn before remembering why she stopped trying to do that.

This “quick fires will count for elimination consideration” thing is really rough, the judging where they have to explain the dishes to the guests who weren’t there was really awkward. the result was ultimately the right one probably even though I love Amanda and how nerdy she is. Also I actually went to Sean Sherman’s restaurant in Minneapolis last month and it’s really cool. it’s right on the river and uses the same philosophy that they had the contestants do for this challenge, I had some really awesome corn dishes which as an Iowan I really appreciated

I like the concept, but the guest judge thing does make it really awkward. You need to have the same guests for both the QF and the actual challenge to make it work. That or just have the core 3 at judges table.

I cringed when all that kerosene smoke blew back across everyone's vegetable preparations. Meanwhile, I need you all to know that on season two of Gordon Ramsey's Food Stars, he and Lisa Vanderpump are considering which of them will take on the entrepreneur who wants to sell you "three square meals a day".... literally. She'll be on Lisa's team This came after a guy wearing a fanny pack came out saying he's bringing back the 90s because he bought the trademark for a discontinued Keebler cookie he wants to recreate. He's on Lisa's team too
