It's weird how lighthearted the middle stretch of episodes are. Every talks about how depressing and such the show is and then you get 10 or so episodes of everyone smiling and getting along while fighting non-traumatizing monsters-of-the-week.

Which of course ties it all back around to the central themes of loneliness/connections/etc.

to me, it's her suicide, that's a 0->60 that feels extremely unearned. Every time I watch the series I feel like I'm missing a scene where it's implied that Gendo was the actual one that did her in and the "suicide" was a cover up but I don't think the text supports that at all.

I also really liked how they handled the MC's Caretaker/Death Robot. It was a really unique take where The AI takes it's Asimov Three Laws Style directives and evolves them beyond what humanity intended. But instead of the cliche "Enslave humanity for its own good" thing it instead tells the MC to get a girlfriend and kills the other robot for not properly serving humanity. Also, If you need more underwater mecha try Blue Sub No. 6

Barring the fact it's mostly described in supplementary materials, wasn't mankind doomed because of much more than normal scientific reasons? Like theres stuff that talks about the big Kabbalic soul depot is out of new souls to be born? You can't exactly solve that with better power plants.

They honestly should have just kept the giant laser cannon plugged in. They could have pretty easily killed all but the two orbital and two microbial ones with it.

Did the cannon actually need an Eva to work? We know you can defeat an AT Field with enough conventional force like an N2 Mine, the problem was they just regenerate without an Eva to kill the core. I always just kinda assumed that was the idea behind the big ol' death ray and they were lucky enough to hit Ramiel's core with it. Though that begs the question why they bothered to build an oversized trigger for Unit 01 to pull instead of firing it with a remote (besides the fact it makes for exiting television).
