I don't know who the hell Alexander Yakovlev is but accepting a fight with Demian Maia in your UFC debut is some gangster poo poo and I look forward to seeing his unconscious body featured during a Face The Pain highlight reel segment.

couldn't an mma website request an interview with the ref assigned to do Gustafsson/Jones II and casually ask him, "so those finger pokes Jones does in every fight are weird, huh?" it might plant a seed in the ref's mind to do something about it.

what an absolutely dumb fight that would be, but whatever, I guess nobody else at 185 makes sense for Silva and GSP is out. to be honest it sets a bad standard for UFC when this moron can complain & trash the company for two years straight and get a GSP title fight and an Anderson Silva super fight out of it. Wait that's impressive so nevermind, good for Diaz.

Bubba Smith posted:what an absolutely dumb fight that would be, but whatever, I guess nobody else at 185 makes sense for Silva and GSP is out. All logic leads to this being an awesome fight. Lord knows I've had my disagreements with the management at UFC in the past. I could call out as an example the Kimbo marketing schtick. That said, I'm comfortable with the UFC lying in that fuzzy grey area between boxing's byzantine organizational nightmare and pro wrestling's promotional farce. At least it shows that the UFC occasionally gives a gently caress about what fans want.

I hope not. I'm tired of Nick Diaz being in relevant fights so I'm kinda against it, but whatever, I'm outvoted. After he loses to Silva maybe he should fight Velasquez, the fans would probably want to see that too.

Jack of Hearts posted:Exactly how broken do you think Anderson Silva is? Probably very. Whether Diaz would actually win is pretty unlikely but I think the Tim Kennedy's of the world will actually present viable, competitive matchups for Anderson when previously that would have been absurd. The guy is a 40-year-old reflex-based fighter with poor takedown defense and competent but unremarkable grappling whose chin and footwork are likely after the door following a big knockout loss, a knockdown with some hard follow-up shots and a bad leg break. Let's not assume he's going to come back good as ever.

A year ago when Diaz wanted this match Dana publicly said it was a dumb fight, but that was when GSP vs Silva was still possible. UFC wants to get one "superfight" out of Anderson Silva before he retires so this will have to do.

Dangersim posted:The correct answer is "we have no idea" Obviously no, we won't know for sure how he'll look until he's back in the cage. But based on his age, his style and the sheer amount and type of damage he has taken in his last two fights, all signs point to a diminished fighter. My opinion ranks about a 3.7 on the patented Willie Dee Bravery Scale

I really hope Silva/Diaz happens because there is no result that could not be hilarious and/or amazing. e: also TKZ is probably coming back August/September and wants Lamas, who wants to fight sooner against Poirier or Bermudez, while Bermudez wouldn't mind fighting TKZ. all of these fights own Actually you could match up just about anyone in the top 15 of the featherweight division and it would own except for Clay Guida.
