Just because you can doesn't mean they don't still judge you for it. Sigh.

Same question as OP, but with Clannad. And if it is acceptable, will my parents be asking why I am watching with English dubs instead of subs?

Maybe I just have cool parents but I've never exactly had to hide my anime from them or anything. They'd probably get a little miffed if I went full weeb and started buying tons of figurines and wallscrolls and a dakimakura, but watching it and buying DVDs/manga/a Crunchyroll sub has never made them raise an eyebrow. poo poo, my mom walked in on me watching Eureka Seven one time and she was legit interested. e: Clannad and Kaiji are both 100% clean by the way, though Clannad may make you look shameful for other reasons WeedlordGoku69 fucked around with this message at 04:35 on Jun 2, 2015 |

The first time I watched Urotsukidoji was at a friends house and his mum watched it as well, she thought it was funny. On the other hand my own parents once made me turn off an episode of Star Trek: TNG for having too much sex in. Sakurazuka fucked around with this message at 08:24 on Jun 2, 2015 |

I'm pretty sure my parents rented Urotsukidoji one time. When I was first getting back into anime in high school and mentioned it offhandedly to my mom, she said she thought anime was cool and mentioned some time she and my dad rented some weird-rear end Japanese animated thing from the adult section after they married, but before she had me, that had tentacles and was surprisingly spooky for porn. Timeframe matches up (married 92, Urotsukidoji came out here 93, I was born 94) and the contents sound about right. I almost wanted to be like "...holy poo poo I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about" but man that is a conversation you want to actively avoid with your parents if at all possible.

Boy I sure am suddenly glad my parents don't talk to me about what porn they've watched.

Speaking of Clannad and parents, my dad was once searching for videos from the Irish band Clannad on Youtube and asked why he was also getting videos of anime girls.

Back in high school, my mom decided to force herself to watch the boxset of Escaflowne they got me for my birthday with me (since she wanted to know what she and my dad paid $150 for). By the end, she was more emotionally invested in the characters than I was. Who knew she'd turn out to be a bishi CLAMP character fangirl?

Surprisingly Dope posted:My dad just talks in a parody of the Chinese language whenever he sees me watching anime. my dad does that with the kind of music I listen to. Like if I'm listening to pink floyd, he'll pretend to be a stoner and ask me if I have a light. I'm glad he doesn't do that with anime though.

littleorv posted:What show would you not want to watch on the big tv though? Out of things I actually like? There's a couple episodes of JoJo that might be awkward due to subject matter, the first couple episodes of Madoka may be a little difficult to explain since I, uh, do not seem like the type to watch magical girl shows, to say the least, and pretty much any 80s or 90s OVA is gonna get a little awkward (Wicked City is basically softcore porn, Ninja Scroll has a stone guy trying to rape a lady, Genocyber... uh do I even really need to specify here, etc)

I like playing anime on the huge living-room TV when I go back home to visit my younger siblings. They're ages 4-16 so the shows have ranged from Non Non Biyori to Gurren Lagann.
