There are a lot of websites out their with lists of the best films of all time. Some cover certain genres, others certain countries or even specific directors. When you've seen all the great movies you know of, where do you go to find new ones? Lists. Share some good lists that people should go through, and explain why you like them.

http://www.afi.com/100Years/movies10.aspx
This is a great list, but it is biased toward the 40s-70s era. If you're looking for classics, go here.

1001 Movies to See Before you Die
This list is fun because it takes itself less seriously than the AFI list and isn't afraid to include stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy. Rather than a list of the essential classics, this is a list of movies that you're sure to enjoy.

What are some other good lists of films?

one thing a computer can do that most humans can't is be sealed up in a cardboard box and sit in a warehouse
They Shoot Pictures Don't They is probably the best and most comprehensive.

Looks like Dubya went on a Police Academy binge during Hurricane Katrina . These are fascinating I'll have to look into more presidents.

Wow this is so interesting. And the man had great taste. Or he just didn't write down the poo poo movies he watched. Having read Nixonland, I would not be surprised at all if the entire thing was manufactured by him for the purposes of his legacy

The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) – February 18th, 2005 FROM THE LOGS: the President requested an early screening of the film before it was released in theaters. Others in attendance included his brother Jeb, Justin Lin (the film’s director), and Vin Diesel. It was explained to the President that Diesel does not appear in this installment, to which the President replied “I know. That’s why I have him here. It’s not the same without him.”

An awesome joke.

I check the Reddit/IMDb 250 occasionally. Keeps me updated on newer popular ones. I've watched the 89 Academy Award for Best Picture films. I like that one because it's set in stone and unalterable. Roger Ebert was always fun to watch on TV with Gene Siskel so I've watched his 46 #1 films from 1967-2012.

I've completed the two major AFI lists:
AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies (10th Anniversary Edition)
AFI's 100 Years...100 Movies

I also watched the 15 hour series The Story of Film: An Odyssey which references many films:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_Film:_An_Odyssey

I've been working through the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Raspberry_Award_for_Worst_Picture lately to explore the other side of film. If I like a director I'll go through all their work and also use IMDbs: "People who liked this also liked..." feature.

Finally, I just lurk threads here and pull individual films from everyone. The shameful thread in particular.

Thank you for the fantastic post, Zogo! I am especially interested in going through Ebert's list and I will also watch The Story of Film: An Odyssey (as well as any other movies that I'm inspired to see as a result of the series).

Here's Jimmy Carter's list
http://paleofuture.gizmodo.com/every-single-movie-that-jimmy-carter-watched-at-the-whi-1728538092
and from there here's Reagan's
https://reaganlibrary.archives.gov/archives/reference/filmsviewed.html
& Here's Clinton's (possibly missing some)
http://paleofuture.gizmodo.com/here-is-every-single-movie-bill-clinton-watched-in-the-1755319341
And the guy says in the Carter article he requested bush's list & the response said he'd get it in about "46 months", Nixon's definitely got the monopoly on taste
