drat, as much as people dislike Falcouner's score these days, there are a few times where I feel like it works pretty well, but it's most likely nostalgia, this is pretty good minus the quality of the dub during that time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpRysAo5pU0

would have been interesting if they went the route of having a score like that but with some silence here and there

Ocean dubbed GT but it was in the hands of a different production company IIRC they used Ocean's budget studio Blue Water and, despite keeping relatively faithful scripts and the original music, the voices are uh not good

Namek was awesome (minus being a kid in the 90s and feeling like we were never gonna leave it), not having Goku around was cool and i liked the tension of everyone trying to stealth their way around everything

The desperation of Gohan/Krillin/Vegeta vs Ginyu Force may have had shades of the previous saga (always waiting on Goku), but it was still entertaining as hell

There's definitely filler I've enjoyed - I remember liking stuff like the fight with the Saiyans from the past in the pendulum room, seeing Tao again, even the short stop on Arlia and some of the Otherworld Tournament were cool, and everyone loves the driving lessons

The overall pacing, however, just destroys any interest I have on sitting down with it, though with Kai it would be cool if they had put more of the Kikuchi soundtrack in and with the correct placement (though I think some madman actually did that on his own??? I remember seeing clips of it on YouTube and loving it)

Good soup!
Nov 2, 2010

Yeah the weird, smoothed out animation that was done to repair damaged frames or whatever just looked awkward as hell and I'm not sure why they just didn't do their best with a 1:1 copy

The Final Chapters was arguably a bit worse because it was cropped for widescreen and has a green tint, but you still can't beat the better pacing (and massively improved dub)

I would absolutely go bonkers if somehow Toei swung a Kai re-release with the new dub but with the original japanese soundtrack. Best of both worlds IMO!

Ahhhhh I found it, one guy had either started to do a restoration track or finished it? The vids here kick rear end but also expose that some tracks wouldn't fit perfectly just due to the pacing, obviously

Still a cool rear end experiment

Isn't it some cultural thing with Japan or anime in general?

Growing up, I had a great appreciation for how so many other shows would have had the villain immediately get away and shake his fist at the heroes. DBZ instead had stakes that felt incredibly high, the villains weren't going to just run when it got hard, they were there to get a job done and by the end of it, everyone is just absolutely hosed up and basically crawling toward one another with broken bones and poo poo

That part and the opening of the Namek saga where Gohan/Krillin are sneaking around and Vegeta doing his own thing are just too good

It’s great that the Dragon Ball anime is basically perfect with no need for cuts or remakes. At worst, you’d have to open a filler guide to know which specific episodes to skip and it’s probably like 10 total.

My ideal version of Z would cut all of the filler (and even more from the Boo saga) that Kai did, but leave the driving school episode, all of the original blood and drawings from Z, and keep the original Japanese soundtrack and dub.

I never want to see Princess Snake or the fake Namekians or fake past-Saiyans again. poo poo just drags everything to a halt.

RIP Bulma’s crab fight. It died so the rest of the show could live.

Awww man, see the fight with the Saiyans from the past is something I like because it at least felt related to their training. So much of the other filler pops up and is just so far removed from what's happening that it just ends up being boring
