I just wanted a place where you can all post your favorite memories and videos of this cool old superhero from Japan that just retired after an amazing career. He's been silly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM5Pa57H5RY He's been serious: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5i9hw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAt9phv2AxA Above all else, he's been one of the best wrestlers of all time. So feel free to share anything you want about an amazing career.

Jyushin Liger went to an elementary school and at lunch with the kids. Later, he put their P.E. teacher in a submission hold. He is both cool and good. Edit: He also goes bowling occasionally, like the good old fashioned ordinary fellow he is. This also shows how cool and god he is. I saw Liger at the MSG show this year and seeing him have that brief standoff with Muta and hearing the crowd go nuts for it was very awesome. Then kenny king had to gently caress it up.

Jushin Liger is the greatest wrestler of all time. legitimately an innovator with a multiple-year claim to having the best years in the business. as good as being a technical wrestler as being a flyer (he won both Best Technical and Best Flyer WON awards three years in a row) and one of the all-time great gimmicks. never loses it and always has a baseline of “delightful” for three decades. then he spends his twilight years putting over anyone with no ego and also just doing goofy poo poo like calling for Tommaso Ciampa to stick a thumb up his butt because he’s bulletproof and it’s fun to do. and he’s just a good guy in and out of the ring, unless you piss him off and he gets possessed by a demon and tries to kill you with a spike, which is extremely badass. and now he retires without ever really getting into that sad broken-down legend phase where you’re just endlessly bummed out to see your hero have to keep going long after they lost it for whatever reason. the absolute greatest ever to do it.

When I started actually watching wrestling it was during a time when the quality of the wrestling itself was pretty poor and the overwhelming aesthetic of both major rosters was "I wear tights or maybe pants and am very serious," and it was fun, but it felt very samey. And then the early-rear end internet got me into tape trading and I was told that I, in no uncertain terms, had to watch the 1994 Super J-Cup because young baby Benoit and Guerrero were in it and it would blow my mind. It did, but mostly because of this weird dude who wrestled in a Power Rangers outfit with giant horns on his head who wrestled in a mixture of styles I had not previously seen and who started the night as a solid wrestling hero and ended it as a mean, sarcastic dick. Liger was the goddamn best and I wouldn't have paid even the minimal attention I did to puro without him, and I hope he gets to relax and enjoy a hopefully healthy life of continuing to weird people out for another fifty years.

Holy poo poo Liger Goddamn I'm gonna miss him. I know he'll still be around New Japan but no more in-ring stuff is a pity... but also wonderful that, as noted, he will never get to the sad "I wish he'd retired years ago" stage many wrestlers do.

when i was in line to get into the NJPW shop before day 2 of Wrestle Kingdom Liger's tour bus pulled up in front and he stuck his head out just long enough to have people notice and then had the bus leave before anyone could get a photo of him. true legends only

He wrestled Scotty Davis at OTT last year, part of his farewell tour, and I got to throw streamers in the ring for him. He was terrific. And Scotty won because going out on your back is a Liger Honoured Tradition.

Doesn't seem like Liger had a match the day I was born but only a week earlier he lost to... Pegasus Kid. Y'know, Benoit Reminder that apparently Liger's missing like a thousand matches on Cagematch, though.

New Japan was between tours when I was born, but 12 days before I was born they ran the 3rd of 3 shows in Pakistan. 2 days after I was born Keiichi Yamada lost. On the same tour he did however beat Shinya Hashimoto.
