January Thread here.
My favorite WWE-related posts for THIS month.

____________________________

Last month's recap:
  • We learned a "fist fight" match is one where the opposing team can't continue. You don't have to hit anybody with your fist.
  • Mojo Rawley has seemingly shifted the 24/7 Title to a title only defended in-ring now.
  • After beating Rey Mysterio in a ladder match to retain his US Title, it was revealed Andrade had failed a wellness test. His 30 day suspension was covered up by an injury angle when he was assaulted by Humberto Carrillo.
  • Rusev has lost every match he has had with Bobby Lashley.
  • Apparently manager character Robert Stone in NXT is intended as a parody of AEW owner Tony Khan :psyduck:
  • Rocky Johnson, WWE Hall of Famer and the father of The Rock died.
  • Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy defeated The Viking Raiders to become the new Raw Tag Team Champions.
  • Keith Lee won the NXT North American Championship from Roderick Strong.
  • NXT has lost every head-to-head showdown with AEW this month.
  • NXT and NXT UK's Worlds Collide show was excellent and enjoyed by everybody who watched it.
  • Mandy Rose came to greatly appreciate Otis and agreed to go on a Valentine's Date with him in February.
  • Drew McIntyre and Charlotte Flair won the Men's and Women's Royal Rumble matches respectively. Drew has already challenged Brock Lesnar, who he eliminated from the Rumble after Brock had torn through nearly half the entrants with laughable ease by himself.
  • Smackdown Women's Champion Bayley defeated Lacey Evans after a long month of baffling face/heel dynamics and ended the month being beaten down by the returning Naomi.
  • Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch defeated Asuka who had spent the month gleefully trolling her with the aid of Kairi Sane.
  • WWE Champion Bray Wyatt defeated Daniel Bryan, and we learned Bryan's wife (as well as her twin sister/his sister-in-law) are now pregnant in real life.
  • Edge returned at the Royal Rumble as an active competitor, but was assaulted by close friend Randy Orton on Raw the next night.
  • Samoa Joe has suffered a concussion and is currently out of action.
  • The "Broserweights" of Matt Riddle and Pete Dunne won the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
  • Roman Reigns finally got revenge for being covered in dogfood by Baron Corbin by covering Baron Corbin in dogfood, after Corbin lost a "loser eats dogfood" match and Michael Cole excitedly reminded everybody for two hours that the loser would eat dogfood. Corbin didn't eat dogfood.
  • Semi(?)-retired WWE wrestler John Cena is playing the main villain of the latest Fast and Furious movie, which just released a trailer.
  • WWE abruptly fired Co-Presidents George Barrios and Michelle Wilson which sent the stockprice tumbling. There are claims they were fired to try and set up an scapegoat in advance for a supposedly bad quarterly financial report, while WWE claims it was a difference in creative vision. This leaves the company with new Presidents being put in place a week before Vince McMahon is supposed to be putting most of his focus onto the disaster that will be the relaunched XFL.

Smackdown Results 2/28:

  • The show opened with Roman Reigns saying,"I'm next" to Goldberg who wanted a challenge for the Universal Championship.

  • Bobby Roode defeated Kofi Kingston in a singles match. Happy Black History month.
  • Intercontinental Champion Braun Strowman signed a contract for a handicap match against Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro, after Sami "spun" Braun's statement of,"I don't care if I have to fight all three of you at once." All three then beat the poo poo out of Braun after he threatened to attack them before the PPV.
  • Goldberg vs. Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship was made official for Wrestlemania.
  • Daniel Bryan defeated Curtis Axel in a singles match after Axel didn't adequately follow Drew Gulak's advice.
  • The Usos defeated The Miz and Morrison in a tag match.
  • The Smackdown tag titles will be defended in an Elimination Chamber match in the PPV of the same name.
  • John Cena came out to a giant pop and cut a promo about how he wouldn't be at Wrestlemania this year since that would be taking a spot from a regular member of the roster.
  • The lights went out as Cena was leaving, and came back on to reveal The Fiend Bray Wyatt standing behind him. Bray POINTS TO SIGN and Cena nodded and did the You Can't See Me Gesture.
  • The lights went out again and Bray's laughter ended the show.

  • Naomi defeated Carmela to earn a title shot against Smackdown Women's Champion Bayley at the Blood Money Show in Saudi Arabia.
  • The "main event" was Goldberg coming out for a promo. Firefly Funhouse interrupted and then the Fiend appeared behind Goldberg, who Speared him. The lights went out and the Fiend disappeared.

One Road. Two Friends. One Ass.
House shows were also the only consistently entertaining thing WWE still did.

I've never liked how at house shows they make so many title matches, and with there being a .01% chance that the title is changing hands, it kind of makes the conclusion obvious.

Is there any reason to have a house show title match in 2020?

I went to an NXT house show in Chicago and it was a lot of fun, but every title was on the line... yeah, Nia Jax is not going to beat Bayley for the NXT Womens title at a house show without cameras rolling. But maybe she'd beat her in a non title match

I saw Daniel Bryan wrestle for the WWE title against Randy Orton at a house show in San Diego during that post-Summerslam feud and it was the absolute best even if the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Just sayin

House shows are fun and if the programming was anything like them, it would be 100 times better.

I got a taste for blown saves
I've never been to a house show but I did see that clip where Sheamus was facing McGillicutty and Sheamus slid out of the ring and sat with the announce table for awhile and watched McGillicutty run the ropes solo for like 30 seconds

That kind of thing would never make it on TV
