TooMuchAbstraction posted:Yeah, or do what apparently lots of people in my area think is acceptable and just steal the one bolt you want, leaving a baggy with a hole in it and 3 pieces instead of 4. When I've needed a single bolt I've just gone to the hardware store and bought a single bolt. Never thought that might not be an option somewhere.

Upright is how they store them at every warehouse I've seen that stores large plastic sheets. e: Oh I guess they're not even large? Just get a shelf that doesn't sag.

The roto-rooting (whatever that is) broke something and now you've got a sea of poo poo under your house.

I ended up getting https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/fixa-260-piece-screw-and-plug-set-00169249/ for the drywall anchors, but I made sure that 2 out of the 3 screws of each french cleat was attached to a stud -- I wouldn't feel safe otherwise! See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQx5SVj0biA for why it doesn't matter that much what type of drywall anchor you use -- if there's enough weight on it, the drywall part will fail first. How is that first plug any different from a normal wall plug? The drywall plugs I've seen sold here are nothing like that (for one, they're metal).

An original Abloy design is unbumpable, unzippable, unzippable, unrakable, uncombable, and unpickable with lockpicks. And also decades out of patent! Of course if you get the weirdest burglar in the country who has the required tool with them, it's not going to do much. (You won't.)

Kind of a niche question but I guess it won't hurt to ask: Is there a way to "refinish" bakelite? I have some old cutlery I'd like to use sometimes but the black handles have gone gray over time, with some being still rather shiny black as originally but with very light gray splotches. (Picture below not mine.) Is there a way to make bakelite a) black and/or b) shiny again?

Qwijib0 posted:Comically was looking at an antique radio forum yesterday and ran across this recommendation for bakelite radios: Thanks to this post I realized that refinishing bakelite is actually not a niche problem. A quick World Wide Web search brought up a lot of advice - a lot of it, of course, contradicting each other - because yeah there's all sorts of stuff made out of bakelite that people want to restore. Light switches being one example I'd never have thought of despite having lived with bakelite electrical fittings for years. Is this the time to buy a Dremel or whatever Dremel-like Lidl has on offer? e: Ah gently caress I also just remembered I have my grandaunt's old radio sitting somewhere??? that I need to restore. Nothing wrong with the exterior last time I saw it, which is good because it's wood veneer, with that fancy fabric in front of the speaker that you'll never find a replacement for. (Cue someone linking me up with some shop selling the fabric for 1½€/m.) ee: Had a quick look around the apartment.
