Great scientist, but had some bad takes on how important math is for the future of science. https://slate.com/technology/2013/04/e-o-wilson-is-wrong-about-math-and-science.html His advice is much less hyperbolic than the article suggests and was designed to avoid gatekeeping science to those with enough math, but it got taken by the community as "math is dumb" Alucard fucked around with this message at 20:13 on Dec 27, 2021 |

Jorp et al are morons because they don’t understand that the point of science is to describe reality, not proscribe it. They don’t seem to understand the difference between “x is like y” and “x should be like y”. There’s nothing wrong with saying men are a bunch of alpha male morons who want to murder for sex, provided you have the evidence for it, but there’s a big problem saying “and that’s good and we should all be like that”. Humans are animals after all, and a lot of our behaviours are owing to our primate ancestors. Luckily, we are intelligent enough not have to be slaves to our biology. a primate fucked around with this message at 15:56 on Dec 28, 2021 |

Both Mrs. Genesplicer and I were saddened by this news. We have read his works and went to one of his lectures. Great scientist. Made a lot of great contributions. Fun fact: He once discovered a new species of ant when someone delivered a plant from a florist to him that contained a few of the new species in the root structure. He discovered a new species of ant while sitting at his desk admiring a plant someone sent him as a congratulations for discovering a new species of ant.
