Do we know who's doing the EN voice for Yor yet? So far the VA for Lloyd, Anya, and Franky are spot on

Natalie Van Sistine I think. I'm out of touch on dubs so I'm not familiar with her though

Apart from having the right voices for the characters in general, you can tell the English VAs are really into the material.

I'm extremely in touch on dubs and I've never heard of her, she's legitimately pretty new to the scene. That's not a judgment of her ability, however.

Loyld I think must be genuinely smitten because episode 1 established him as being ultra observant and paranoid and quick to suspect people after sherlock scanning them but Yor despite his initial confusion at their first meeting doesn't seem to be setting off any alarm bells despite clearly doing or acting in ways that should be suspicious? My interpretation then is Loyld is maybe actually in love and this is making him a tad blind. While Yor is established already as being a bit of a scatterbrained blunt instrument and it makes sense for her to not pick up on the ways Loyld isn't as he seems.

The fake country names were a little confusing but to be clear, Loyld is an agent from the "West" while Yor is an assassin working for Anime Not!East Germany?

I think Lloyd has some tunnel vision going on; Either being so focused on a task that he isn't asking himself the questions that should be asked, or things being so convenient that he doesn't really question it (I think the latter also applies to Yor, to a degree).

Like I dunno I just remember this one minor plot point from Power Rangers where it turned out that the love potion never worked on Lord Zedd and he'd been lovestruck at first sight with Rita Repulsa the entire time was kinda sweet and a hilarious twist; and the idea that maybe Loyld thinks he's just focused on the mission but was actually awe struck at first sight gives me similar cool vibes. :3:

I love the drum roll in the theme song. Really fits the 60s-70s vibe of the setting

I wonder how accurate the designs are for East Germany/Former USSR/Eastern Bloc in terms of interior design, architecture, cars etc.

I wonder if Yor is not as dumb/naive as people think especially when Twilight was lying about his blood stain and running away from his patients. We only had Twilight's thoughts on the matter.

"Concussive Recovery Method" heh.

I wonder if Yor's brother will play a significant role later in the series like the leader of Twilight's enemy or something.

Can just a call about someone being single really be reason to call the government to suspect someone for being a spy? Yor's colleagues are dicks.

There's a lot of work put into getting an appropriate cold war vibe, at minimum. For example, the manga's volume covers all have famous chairs from the era.

For the author's previous serialized manga, he actually went to New York to get the details right. Of course, he had almost no money, so he and his editor had to stay in the same tiny hotel room, but making that effort in those conditions speaks to his commitment to getting things right.

Watching the dub for episode 2 now that it's up. Yor's voice is kind of throwing me. It's not a bad performance at all, but it's much more serious and played-straight than I was expecting for Yor, who's honestly pretty spacy. My best guess for why they went this route is that it seems like it plays well opposite Alex Organ's extremely straight-laced and serious Loid, which would suggest they're intentionally trying to play Loid and Yor a bit lower-key as a contrast to Anya being a cartoon trash goblin.

A lot of the architecture and designs are pretty on point for Germany and east Germany in general. You can probably spot a Trabbi here and there (a famous eastern german car) and the storefronts look pretty accurate to me. You can still find a lot of streets that look pretty much like some of the stuff that's shown in here, so they probably did a good amount of research.
The opera in episode 3 was immediately recognizable as "Estuans Interius" from the "Carmina Burana" by the german composer Carl Orff.

I'm not super current on my East Germany knowledge, so obviously grain of salt; but in general I assume it's referencing the Stasi and the overwhelming surveillance they employed over East Germans, to the point it is said when informants are factored in, there was around 1 stasi agent per 6.5 East Germans. If it were the stasi then doubtlessly Yor would already have a file; as would her colleagues. :D

Whether a single phone call would be enough is an open question more for people who researched this period (like Cyrano IIRC); presumably if I recall correctly from various readings a single phone call alone probably wouldn't be enough; bureaucrats overseeing this would be aware of individuals seeking to game the system to eliminate rivals and do some sort of due diligence in verifying the claims (all of which depends on the era, i.e 1930's USSR would gleefully arrest anyone to meet purge quotas). Yor all those other spy/assassin traits (being single into her late 20s, mysterious relatives, etc) presumably would result in the investigation gaining steam.

If Yor is an "officially" sanctioned assassin for the Ostanian government and not merely a black ops sort of agent for plausible deniability purposes I think such an investigation would probably get quickly swept under the rogue once it worked its way through the system and the right pair of eyes got to it; and end up potentially backfiring on the people informing on her as "reporting a state asset is just the sort of thing a western spy would do hrmmm?" Either way, messy for Yor's mission.

Interesting! One reason why I asked because at least one of the skyline/overview shots had a lot of random looking buildings, or at least they looked a little too random when usually cities, especially in Europe I'd figure would have a bit more consistency; but it also occurs to me that East Berlin in particular could maybe be quite random due to the various periods of architectural prominence between the Kaiser era, the Nazi era, the destruction of WW2 resulting in rebuilding under the Soviet era with Socialist inspired architecture and maybe that's why it was a little random. If it were a Soviet city I'd imagine more Khrushchyovkas and part of my was expecting more buildings along those lines.

I'm far from an expert but it looks like an amalgam of Central Europe, the UK, and some American thrown in.

But I do enjoy the shoutouts to early and mid-20th century design and art. Take a look at the end credits again--there's a love letter to the Dutch painter Piet Mondrian in there, he of stuff like this:
