My base salary for engineers is 300k/yr. Probably 120 in the 80s/90s but theres more you have know for competency now in addition to raw inflation.

I make so, so much less than that now but I own my own house so rent isn't taking a big chunk of of my pay. My partner and I decided we didn't want to spend our 40s working ourselves to death so we don't anymore. It's nice!
