I’ve got way too many books (according to my wife and also most other people) but I just love all my books and want to buy more. Going to a bookstore and browsing for a new book is like a top 5 activity for me.

Tell me about your book collections. What’s your favorites, how do you store them, what do you buy etc. post shelf porn (even if I didn’t yet)

I recently picked up several boxes of old thrillers and mysteries from an estate sale. For like 20$ I got really nice hardcovers of every Lee Child book as well as a ton of Robert Parker paperbacks. In another lot I also got like 90% of what Donald Westlake has written, including some really nice first editions.

I buy whatever random books look good when browsing, but I make a point to also buy Penguin Modern Library classics (with the brown spine) and Hard Case Crime books. Lately I’m also on a real kick of buying YA series that I liked as a kid or that I think my kids might like, and I love good picture books.

Oh wow, $20 was a good deal! As for me, I definitely, definitely prefer having books of the same height and cover art. It's always annoying when an author changes halfway through a series. So I try and borrow the early ones in those cases, then buy them later on when they're all out in the same style+size.

I'm not at home so I can't post photos, but for instance, I have a whole heap of Penguins (not the brown spined ones you mentioned - I go for the standard black with white Penguin 'ribbon') that have matching dimensions and style. Also made sure my Black Company collection of books are the same.

Interesting to hear about Hard Case Crime - I have a friend who might be interested in those. Are there any specific books in their published works, that would be stand-outs for a fan of crime books and shows/films? (Especially old noir style stuff)

I took this almost a year ago so I have way more of these now but I buy them every time I find them at the thrift shops I go to. They're good quality prints, just the right size for a backpack and I love the uniform look on a shelf. They also tend to be really inexpensive and they're virtually guaranteed to be good reads
