There's a pretty clear drama point that the manga gets to that I think the series will try and reach. I remember hearing about editorial drama over the series too about the direction it was going and then after the point I'm talking about it shifts direction back to how it was in the beginning, I think.

That said, the #1 Hokkaido girl I wanna see more of is this one:

It does mix it up a little (but obviously not enough) with side tangents in the lives of the other demons, but yeah, the majority of the series is built around this one thing.

Pon no Michi is cute and fun. The first episode also has a part that's just back to back references to well known mahjong manga like Akagi and Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku. There's little depth or stakes it seems, so it's closer to a CGDCT series with Mahjong, but the characters aren't as moe. The second episode basically brings in their version of Mugi.

Still enjoying It's Time for "Torture". The first real "torture" in the series. I do like the enhancements they've been making. Many of the jokes are fundamentally the same between torturers but it's fun and light and sometimes that's all that's needed.

In today's High Card, we finally find out the main villain's motivation. Not a very sympathetic one, TBH. "I want to use my superpowers to spin objects around whenever I feel like and you can't stop me!" isn't much of a justification for all the death and destruction he's been responsible for at this point, especially since it implies (in case it wasn't already obvious) that his occasional rhetoric about "family" and maybe ending world hunger was insincere.

We also now know what the royal family is trying to do with the cards, which turns out to be basically just stopping other people from using them (although I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out there's more to it than that somehow).
There's still some mysteries here, of course. We don't know exactly what Who's Who is trying to do with them (I suspect King himself doesn't really know and mostly just wants Theodore's attention). What the Black Knight's deal is is also unclear; I'm guessing he's one of the original knights, went mad when he felt betrayed by the first king, and his consciousness survives via his card, possessing its player in a similar manner to Love and Peace. And the talk about San Galgano "killing gods" is also pretty mysterious, since there's been no mention of gods up to this point. (It feels a bit copied from Code Geass, where the deicide thing felt equally abrupt.) There's also still enough individual cards unrevealed and not in any known faction's possession that resolving everything in just eight more episodes would require some rushing; it's possible they'll be a third season, but it's also possible they'll just say "Oh, by the way, the Black Knight has the remaining cards" or something like that.

All we know is that High Card continues its gay subtext, now with the villain and the leader of the org with King jealous that's not getting attention from the cold and aloof guy.

Oh, yeah. It's interesting because often in this sort of show (admittedly a difficult subgenre to precisely define) there's shipper-appeal without much actual subtext, if that makes sense, just attractive young men existing in proximity to each other, but in High Card it feels like at least some of these characters are actually supposed to be gay/bi.

Apple is definitely into Finn and it's pretty clear. Finn and Chris are also the obvious main ship as they're Partners (not unlike the duo in Tiger and Bunny)

This is definitely a bit homoerotic out of context and in context still is kinda.

No, it's the one where he's just a mid tier helpful guy that dies and becomes an undead and from that, new opportunities emerge that gets him more powerful. Spoiler: It turns out he's also sorta special with his own unique abilities unrelated to being undead, but he's not quite all the way OP

Finally cracked open Useless Tamer and Undead Adventurer. The former is a bit sad, but it is a bit of a change of pace from the other isekai where the past life is more like an extra voice chiming in, and also not all that helpful all things considered. There's no hints of overpowered abilities as of yet. More just struggling to survive. It's downright refreshing almost. Undead Adventurer otoh, does seem to be slowly going towards the eventually powerful direction, but more because the MC how has a growth hack by being a monster at the expense of...being a monster. Only through episodes 1 of each, but I've the read the scanalations of the manga so I'm more watching to see what's different and if they improve on it with the animation in some way. For example, there was not enough goofy skeleton antics in Undead Adventurer (but there wasn't much in the source material either fwiw)

Still watching Pon no Michi and something I didn't know was that it's apparently a shoujo series. Or at least, the manga that got released shortly before the anime started is running in a shoujo magazine. It's still a mahjong themed SoL series, but it's a slightly interesting thing about it. It also already has a spin-off manga published in a Seinen (online) magazine which seems more appropriate.

Meanwhile, in It's Time for "Torture" Princess

It's meant specifically to be more entry level too compared to the big mahjong series so that makes sense.

It reminds me that Chihayafuru, which was sponsored by the Karuta association, still hasn't animated the last bits of the manga (though a good chunk of it is basically one tournament which may or may not go down well)

It's kinda bonkers that the closest Egyptian themed rider is just one form and its upgrade of the Srcondary in Ghost. The theme of the Rider pastiche is so good and it's probably too dripping with theme to ever be real.

Edit: It'd probably work if they made a season themed around world mythologies I guess.

Yeah I'm not exaggerating, I think it's even worse than Eva's. The flashbacks are about three times longer than they have any right to be just to try and fill time, and the rest of the episode is characters sitting at a table expounding, with effectively no actual animation (think Pokemon - mouths flapping, but nobody actually moves at all)

I imagine some of it was just filibustering for time as they had a clear end point but not enough planned material to get there so they just filled time with flashbacks including a glorified clip show. Idk how it all gets done in the manga fwiw but it's likely not at the same level. As for lack of animation, I'm fairly certain that's because they were shoving all of the resources towards these last few episodes and the back to back fights in it
