[ASK] me about OS/2 Warp
ok imagine you have a fuckin' bus line that takes your idiot citizens into work. This is the Transistor Line! in the morning they all line up and load up onto the buses, fifty apiece. They hang out and wait at a place called the "Collector" station. This is cool, but who the gently caress is going to drive them? oh wait, there's this VIP line off to the side, that only bus drivers can get through. They bypass the main queue and go in through the "Base". So basically, for every bus driver, you can move fifty people (actually 51!) over to the city, where the "Emitter" station is. Boom, you can now move a shitload of people!

If you have a shitload of bus drivers waiting (a lot of current available at the gate), you'll almost definitely be able to take all the passengers you get. But if you want to control how many passengers make it from the Collector to Emitter station, just limit the amount of bus drivers. boom good to go. Don't want anybody to get into town? Cut off the supply of bus drivers.

there are no new things, everything comes from the same protons and electrons that formed 400,000 years after the Big Bang, together with photons generated by solar fusion which spent millions of years random-walking themselves out of the sun's core

hope this helps.

it's more than just tunneling, it's resistance going up (recall that r = rho*l / A). the problem is exacerbated by the fact that that copper interconnects (which we switched to because the resistivity of copper is much less than that of aluminum) poison the doping of silicon, so you have to coat them in a tantalum sheath to prevent that. the minimum thickness of the sheath that works is about 10 atoms, so until we find a material which can act as an effective diffusion barrier to copper with a thinner film than that or move on to non-copper interconnects we're not getting all that much smaller

yeah we just need to think up of something new. it's really incredible how far we could take transistors though. maybe if there were easy ways that could be made to read an atom, there may be a lot of power there

maybe we could give up trying to make transistors smaller and faster and just be happy with what we have now i mean that stuff is pretty fast already

so let's just stop programming more complex poo poo. we solved the move-free-porn-to-eyeball problem years ago

most software "development" has been completely unnecessary and redundant for practical purposes for at least a decade now. i mean upanto peaked at 5.10 or something.

Do not engage. Just tell me to go back to Kiwi Farms where I waste days upon days crying about how I wasted years upon years on SA. Did you know I was personally responsible for SA's rise in popularity in the 00's? It's true! Just come to the Farms and find out how! It's the trash kingdom I deserve.

at work we have at least 3 levels of tools to avoid lovely code and routinely we get code that sneaks past all three to fail in new and creative ways

oh yeah, although it will help to have those tools, you can't depend on the at all. there's infinite ways to code badly and good code was only mastered by ppl that made 2600 games

the whole premise of the matrix being in a human's natural modern habitat was really dumb. they could have had the humans live a totally abstract simulation with 3d vector graphics and funny shapes or nothing at all
