MC Nietzche posted:If Sanders was going to concede tonight wasn't the night. Back in 2008 Clinton went through the motions after South Dakota. First "the we're going to take it to the convention! speech." Then the "thank you for all your hard work" speech. Finally the concession/endorsement speech. The followers must be guided gently to the common cause, slowly made aware that the challenge is over, or they may bolt. It is known.

I'm super sad that I missed the TYT meltdown tonight. I really wish they archived their videos. Last week they were talking about hating any of their friends or family who didn't vote Bernie. I wanted to see how bad it got this week.

I just watched bits of it and it was punctuated with Cenk angrily explaining that the presidency doesn't even matter and seeming to genuinely not understand why anyone votes not-Bernie while the lady on the panel tried not to cry.

The lady was the one who was spitting mad about anyone in her life not being for Bernie last week so I can only imagine her emotional state after tonight. And I keep waiting to find out that Jimmy guy had a heart attack on air.

They had a long discussion on Bernie emerging from a fire reborn as a dragon to devour the establishment Also they got really excited about primarying Hillary in 2020 Also a long talk on if it is more important to "punish" Hillary or keep Trump out of office. I don't think they reached an agreement. Tainen has issued a correction as of 05:08 on Apr 27, 2016 |

Tainen posted:She went on a long tirade about it might not be so bad to elect trump and "burn it all down" November is a long way away. It's a mistake to think that Trump won't bring at least most of the republican party home. Hillary will do the same. SA and Reddit are not representative, and the vast majority of Dems are happy with both candidates. Ultimately Trump has enough negatives that he'll end up losing and maybe badly, but he isn't losing 40% of the party and neither is HRC.

Tribalism is a big thing, especially in elections. Time and a steadily growing at the other party will do most of the work.

In general I assume that most of the Bernie supporters who prefer Trump to Hillary are either (a) in states that slant enough that it doesn't really matter, (b) will mellow when they have a little time to heal, or (c) will start to see more space between Hillary and Trump once that's the race because right now they're too locked into "Bernie vs Hillary." But honestly, with Trump I have no loving idea. I just mostly wanted to see how far TYT got after "gently caress anyone in my life who doesn't vote the way I do." I'm just saying that emotions and such are running high right now. Lots of Bernie people will be screaming to burn it all down and #nevertrump will be saying the same.

I for one am happy about this outcome. I got to bond with a cool fellow student at the Hillary campaign office in Pittsburgh as I phone banked, and I got to feel the deep satisfaction of knowing that the annoying radical "SHILLARY is an OLIGARCH" students are feeling the cold, dripping cut of loss. All in all, a pretty good day.
