You're wrong. full size displayport connectors come with those stupid hooks on the back indicative of a shoddy connector (somehow still less horrible than any sort of hdmi though) mini displayport works fine without stupid hooks therefore mdp > dp

by the way dell is doing it right: their monitors include a cable with mdp on one and and normal dp on the other, so you can connect to either mdp or normal dp devices

I can see this being useful for industrial applications or something, where you need to guarantee a cable never wiggles loose over time, but that's it.
