We both had save files on our own memory cards where we'd beaten the game 101% or whatever the max is. I don't think she's even beaten another game in her hwole life.

that video is from the year after i was there. i can see they did nothing to fix the glaring loving lag on the big stage (the opening matches were played on a smaller stage where the lag was fine)

e: wait no, 2008 was the year i was there. but the finals weren't witwix and wuffy, it was monkey and lo7_. i'm positive of this, wikipedia agrees with me too. what the hell

actually thanks to the way the star power system works, it's possible to squeeze a couple of extra points out of most songs with timing that ranges from "a frame or two" to "quite generous", even if you manage to otherwise get a full combo and get all the points from the hold notes and use the "normal" optimal star power path. sometimes these squeezes can require use of alternate star power paths that leave you with less points than the normal path if you gently caress them up - like most games, it's deeper than it first appears when you get into high-tier competitive play

but on the lower songs, yeah. i tied with my opponent in a really slow and easy song in one of my opening matches and then he demolished me on the tiebreaker because i hadn't practiced that song and didn't know the star power path

The "high-level" guitar hero community at the time, such as it was, was pretty much confined to just a single fan-run site, so everyone p much knew who everyone else was

the only reason i still remember any of the players is because it was such a surreal experience to get flown to another country to compete in such a huge event (big expo hall, millions of euros in cumulative prize money) when i was like 15 years old

You're surprised that a copy pasted game design that just hides 90% of a player's faults and never tells them that they're bad was super popular? *glanced sidelong at Overwatch Origins Edition with 20 free lootcrates included* Haha yeah me too.

I wish I still had my iPad and knew what all my pinball arcade scores were because some were pretty freaking good. I also have probably played Junkyard IRL for a hundred hours and spent enough quarters on it that I could have paid for my own table. Nowhere near pro pinball player status but I could trigger the wizard mode pretty regularly and knew all the weird ways to game the system and stack multipliers and maximize score and it's definitely the table I'm best at

Someone told me a bar here got Attack From Mars and I got really excited until I learned that it was actually the incredibly fail Pinball 2000 Attack From Mars sequel where literally half of the playfield is a video screen and most of your time is spent playing dumb video modes that do not involve mechanical pinball whatsoever. Im not sad that pinball basically died for a decade if that's the best poo poo they could come up with

Plays way too fast too with a really open/boring playfield. Its in like perfect condition too which is even more agonizing considering all of the sick tables I've seen at other bars that are busted and broken to poo poo

I used to live within walking distance of a Lord of the Rings where the flippers were tuned too weak to ever make the ring shot and a Simpsons Pinball Party where the upper playfield flippers just plain didn't work :ughh:
