I got a box in the mail today!

It contained a nice selection of colored clay and some great monster manuals. The Catspector General seized Creatures Anathema for customs processing but I am hoping it will be released if I pay proper Fancy Feast bribes.

Thanks Pyrolocutus!

Hope you're enjoying it :) Wasn't sure if going off your listed beaten track of monster manuals would be for the best, but hope they're all good reading. I love reading those types of things myself, even if I find it hard to make time for actual games these days. Happy Pokemon sculpting too!

It'll make sense, eventually.
I threw a little alt-christmas party for close friends tonight and couldn't wait any longer to open my sweet loot!

All boxes required careful inspection, but why use some silly animal for that, when one could enlist the world's greatest detective? I started with the smaller boxes and...

... The santa turned out to have an impeccable taste in cardboard! I got a card-based spin-off of Camel Up I didn't even know existed. It seems to be basically the same thing, but slightly refined - which, given the original is really fun, is pretty great!

Then there's the Space Alert expansion I went rather apeshit about. I had difficulty grabbing ahold of it and my most 'hardcore' group of gamers was finding the base game slightly easier than I'd like them to, so I spent a good part of the evening giggling at the poo poo Vlaada cooked up.

Thanks a lot, Santa!

The gift from the other santa was more puzzling: this photo looks like two pieces of poop in evidence bags, but in real life they rather resembled cheap chinese slippers sold at bazaars. However, a quick sniff gave the game away - they were actually delicious biscuits!

I devoured one of them with friends and they were really good, if hard to describe why - they're basically sponge cakes with a tint of chocolate, but really good, soft and airy. It's hard to believe they sat in a box for a few weeks beforehand!

The other box contained a letter explaining these weird biscuits in detail, including their XVIII-century origin story. I really enjoyed this little history lesson, the kind of semi-useless trivia being a nerd is all about. While Welfenspeise (the original planned dessert) doesn't sound like something that would survive the travel intact, it is mighty intriguing weird little thing. I might attempt doing one myself if I find a recipe!

And that's before we even get to the hot & trending game I was very generously gifted! I might have to keep it a secret for a while, or my friends will hound me night and day to set up a game night. I also found it amusing for a German tradgames goon to be surprised about the current state of boardgaming, given what a driving force the country is for the industry!

Man, I keep getting really cool stuff from this each year. Goon santas are the best!

PS. I hope I'll be able to do some wikipedia surfing on the Hoya-Oldenburg beef once I fully sober up, that stuff sounds interesting!

I received a package, it is an article of clothing. Unfortunately, I do not believe I can post it, as it is a hoodie that is covered in anime pornography and probably has placed me onto an FBI watch list.

Thank you, Santa?

edit: I tried to put it on and discovered that it is actually a pullover and not a front zip hoodie. It is also several sizes too small for me.

Sorry I've been busy with Holiday travels and :stonk: that wasn't what I thought the shirt was going to be, I mean it was supposed to be a bit embarrassing but CHRIST. I'm glad the backup gift was received.

Merry Christmas, everyone, and a Happy New Year!

I finally opened the mysterious package sent to me from the United Kingdom.

And I found another, smaller box inside! It was full of black paper and shiny pieces of plastic saying "Merry Christmas", and I should have taken a photo of that, because it was in retrospect very cool and very :3:

And underneath all that filler was a lot of The Goods! Pocket Battles: Celts vs Romans is something I had only heard about, but what I heard was good and I can't wait to try it out today when I go to visit my family. Two Data Packs for Netrunner are also exactly what the doctor ordered, and I am still super happy to get such a wonderful gift from Mysterious Places Abroad!

Thank you very much, Secret Santa, and I wish you all the best in the coming year!

Merry Goonmas everyone! I'll check in on the thread on the 26th. In the meantime, if you celebrate Christmas or if you don't, I hope you have a nice couple of days. :)

Everything is Sinister

Well, the day has come! My mum decided to wrap my Santee's present:

The official present inspector gave it a cursory glance, but he was otherwise preoccupied with his own gift:

It's the Doctor Who game! Very pleased with this, even if the present inspector seems nonplussed:

Looking forward to digging into this - after the Christmas Special has aired, naturally. Thanks Santa!

Christmas holidays means more kitbashing time, so I thought I'd share some of the things I've been constructing with my very welcome gifts.

Here's some mean-looking Plague Marines:

And as I hoped, those Statuesque heads give a fresh look to Escher gangers:

Thanks again Yvonmukluk, and a merry Christmas to all!
Those look awesome!

Happy holidays, goons!

Oh, no! I've been a bad Santee and forgotten to share the joy that my Secret Santa has brought me. :ohdearsass: Time to rectify that!

When it arrived, the package had both Parcel Inspectors interested, but only one felt photogenic at the time.

Included was a very nice letter, as well as a side-loading zip binder from BCW, a copy of Night Witches, a 1st Edition copy of the Legend of the Five Rings roleplaying game, and a fancy L5R lanyard/badge combo.

Thank you for all the awesome gifts! The binder will surely come in handy and I'm excited to read the L5R book to learn more about Rokugan. I've also declared my allegiance to the honorable Lion Clan using the customizable badge!

I gravitated towards the Greens, eventually even joining the party itself.

The Linke is a party I grudgingly accept exists, but I've learned enough about DDR-history I can't bring myself to trust a party that was once the SED, a party leading the corrupt state apparatus ...

Nice to hear you liked this crazy poo poo I've send you! Also nice to hear Nienburg's tourism website wasn't lying as they claimed Bärentatzen would stay fresh for months! :v:

The Hoya-Oldenburg feud isn't on Wikipedia though, as a fair warning. At least I couldn't find it while looking. The story about a Count of Hoya spending multiple years in a wooden cage in Oldenburg is from this book: Garnison und Gesellschaft: Nienburg und seine Soldaten

Well, at least I think it's in there, it's been about 13 years since I've read that book. Which is in German. And has no English translation. gently caress, now I feel I should buy it and read it again.

Eh, maybe next month.
