I don't think he's an actual paleontologist, but he certainly does know his stuff. So, prelude. However, there is a story. The making of this marble machine was in fact documented on the channel, over a series of 9 videos. I haven't seen these videos, as they aren't part of what I'm actually obsessed with, and they are only a footnote in the story I'm trying to convey. The real inciting incident... Don't get me wrong, as a piece of folk art and music making capabilities, you only need to see the views on the original video to understand how successful it was. But in terms of being an instrument, it was incredibly unreliable. The building was improvisatory, and mistakes built upon mistakes until you got a wobbly mess that wore itself down. After a year dedicated to it's building, it worked well enough for the video, but it's inventor was unhappy. The dream was to make a variety of songs with this beautiful machine, and tour it around so that many people could hear it. Instead, he got one video out of it. And from what I heard soon after, it broke down significantly after performing it's one song. He ended off the video dreaming of fixing this mess so it can perform as it should. An ongoing project of about 2 years now, catalogued over 62 videos, a collective 14+ hours of broadcasted footage. Documenting absolutely every single aspect to designing, conceptualizing, prototyping, crafting, revising, rebuilding, scrapping, re-rebuilding, cataloging, bookkeeping, procrastinating, meeting with the software developers, finally assembling, unassembling, and drafting up once again every single piece of this machine. And the machine's inventor, Martin, is really good at documenting and narrating every step in understandable and interesting ways. It makes the entire engineering process seem a hell of a lot less daunting, and a lot more understandable. Adding to this hobby project-turned-engineering marvel, he's working with a lot larger knowledge base. He's gotten a lot of help from a community of specialized and trained engineers, craftsmen, and other people who have worked on projects like this. Their collective knowledge, talents, and skills have helped create a completely solid, finely crafted machine that you believe will travel the world. And I will say, there is a lot of drama to the whole process. In commitment to documenting the entire construction, you get to see a lot of his failures and mistakes too. Some mechanics that seem genius end up biting him in the rear end later. Some parts that look surefire locks and finalized will suddenly be scrapped for completely new mechanisms. Sometimes things that should fit in the CAD draft end up not working at all. And then, when it all comes together and start working as they should, it's so lovingly shot that it's almost pornographic. The evolution of the presentation over time is extraordinary, and they only get more watchable over time (except for a couple mid-to-late episodes that's purely about dealing with drafting/software, which might not be to some people's taste). It actually has me considering a path towards engineering with how approachable it makes it look.

I remembered one I meant to put in the OP. Townsends is a channel by a guy who is super into 18th century American history, specifically the food. No idea how this ended up in my recommendeds because I don't know or care about American history and I don't eat meat, which is the basis of most of the videos. But I love this guy.
