Time to necromancy this thread and see how this turned out!eXXon posted:Olofsson - Barkov - Granlund The first fun fact - I wanted to pick Bill Peters as my coach but was too slow, so T-Bone got him instead. Good luck with that!! I got Jay Leach, who is still a good AHL coach at least (Providence Bruins). Now the stats so far: code:
The veterans... uhhhh... Granlund and Stepan have been absolutely godawful, so in fantasy land I would have let them gently caress off in UFA or traded them at the deadline since this team wasn't ready to compete in 19-20. Donskoi and Sanford are decent depth. Agostino actually played in the last Leafs game, and I have fond memories of all four of those shifts that I certainly remember. Prokhorkin put up passable 4th line stats for LA last season before loving off back to the KHL. Let's call this a mixed bag at best, and probably worse than that since I was depending on Stepan and Granlund to fill in at C, so I'll have to pretend that I signed a competent UFA 2C in summer/fall 2020 as Necas is mostly a RW. On defense, Dobson looks to be having a breakout season. Theodore is a stud. Gardiner and Parayko are half-decent and very good, respectively, but both broken. Byram is a bundle of unrealized potential, but at least he's playing in the NHL and on a good team to boot. Pateryn sucked to begin with and has been crippled by injuries. The only other defenseman I picked was Josh Brook, who had a miserable rookie season in the AHL but finally seems to be turning the corner. code:

Oh god my team. Zuccarello-O'Reilly-Mantha Voracek-Hughes-Connolly Vesalainen-Bjugstad-Frolik Goldobin-Jarnkrok-Howden Perlini Hronek-Klingberg Severson-Fox Hutton-Aho Schlemko, Davies Varlamov Schneider ForwardsZucc-O'Reilly-Mantha is a really good line, although not the greatest first line. Hughes has developed well as my 2C. Voracek is still good. And it looks like those are the only five forwards I drafted. That's right, nobody else was picked, so I guess we can't go over how good or bad the rest were. That's a shame. Moving on very quickly to the defense. Defense: OK, this is the clear strength of my team - I think my top four is outstanding. Hronek is underrated as heck, Klingberg is a beast, Fox is legitimately one of the 5-10 best defensemen in the league, and Severson is enjoying a breakout year. My other four defensemen suck donkey balls, but I think I can shelter the third pairing and play my top four a lot and be just fine. Goaltending: Varlamov good. Schneider baaaaaaaaad. Coach: I did draft Bruce Cassidy, who is a terrific coach. He might be able to pull extra wins out. This is... a bad team. The forwards are absolutely loving dreadful beyond the top five, and even those top five aren't good enough to match the top forwards of other teams. I will have no scoring, and I'll have to rely on playing Varlamov 60+ games and playing my front four defensemen 23-27 minutes each per night. No depth at all and my backup goalie is one of the most useless goalies in the NHL. Bottom feeder.

I don't mean to alarm you all but my gimmick of exclusively players over 30 might have been a bad team

Svechnikov-Larkin-Rantanen Drouin-Kotkaniemi-Labanc Lucic-Chytil-Neal Crouse-Turris-Bennett Fischer Chabot-Chychrun Skjei-Hajek Chiarot-DeKeyser Khudobin Brossoit Quick The top six is good. The highest scoring player in the bottom six is Lucic. The bottom fell out on the forwards, for sure. The defense is solid if that top pairing can play 45-50 minutes per game, otherwise there's probably not a worse bottom four in the league. The top two goalies are good, including playoff godmode Khudobin and .920 Brossoit. Quick falls into the next category. I started off drafting young players who I thought would improve, then tried to make some bargain buys for players with bad contracts who I thought would be better than their boat anchors. I could argue that Neal scored 19 last year, Lucic is a solid third liner, but the defense looks like someone forgot to put the middle pair on the practice lineups.

Kopitar-Eichel-Eriksson Ek up the middle is really nice (and I'm still bullish on Cozens) and Pacioretty is a good top line winger but hoooooo boy

Pretty happy with my forward group. Too bad the prospects I gambled on either sucked or didn't get played at all Defense was less good with the 3rd line showing up the 2nd line, guess that's why they get paid the big money wrong year to gamble on Jack Campbell as the goalie I guess! very fun, looking forward to another
