This lineup would be better with Kaprizov as LW1 or at least RW3, but it's young and good enough and will only get better with time. If it flops in year one, even better - the 2020 draft is loaded. I presume it's reasonably expansion draft-proof too. If we hadn't been limited to a mere 23 players I would have taken guys like Boldy and Zegras earlier (and Turcotte later) as there are still plenty of mediocre grinders/AHL superstars left to fill out a roster and a coin flip prospect is always better than a guaranteed replacement-level player.

I also managed to draft zero Canadian forwards/goalies and only non-Ontarian North American defensemen in a pale but significantly less restrictive imitation of Drunk Canuck's all-Euro, anti-Don Cherry gimmick.

The first fun fact - I wanted to pick Bill Peters as my coach but was too slow, so T-Bone got him instead. Good luck with that!! I got Jay Leach, who is still a good AHL coach at least (Providence Bruins).

Basically, almost all of my young forwards were brilliant, genius picks. Well, Tkachuk has had his share of slumps, but he, Boeser and Barkov are largely performing as expected. Kaprizov, Necas and Olofsson are having good-to-great rookie/sophomore seasons. I picked Jeremy Bracco in round 17 (:lol:) but I think that's outweighed by Necas at 16 and Kaprizov in 23.

The veterans... uhhhh... Granlund and Stepan have been absolutely godawful, so in fantasy land I would have let them gently caress off in UFA or traded them at the deadline since this team wasn't ready to compete in 19-20. Donskoi and Sanford are decent depth. Agostino actually played in the last Leafs game, and I have fond memories of all four of those shifts that I certainly remember. Prokhorkin put up passable 4th line stats for LA last season before loving off back to the KHL. Let's call this a mixed bag at best, and probably worse than that since I was depending on Stepan and Granlund to fill in at C, so I'll have to pretend that I signed a competent UFA 2C in summer/fall 2020 as Necas is mostly a RW.

On defense, Dobson looks to be having a breakout season. Theodore is a stud. Gardiner and Parayko are half-decent and very good, respectively, but both broken. Byram is a bundle of unrealized potential, but at least he's playing in the NHL and on a good team to boot. Pateryn sucked to begin with and has been crippled by injuries. The only other defenseman I picked was Josh Brook, who had a miserable rookie season in the AHL but finally seems to be turning the corner.

I finally seem to have drafted a decent goalie in Shesterkin, although he seems to keep injuring himself. Andersen is sliding into mediocrity and will probably get signed to a very regrettable deal in the offseason, hopefully by a team that I don't like.

ForwardsZucc-O'Reilly-Mantha is a really good line, although not the greatest first line. Hughes has developed well as my 2C. Voracek is still good. And it looks like those are the only five forwards I drafted. That's right, nobody else was picked, so I guess we can't go over how good or bad the rest were. That's a shame. Moving on very quickly to the defense.

Defense: OK, this is the clear strength of my team - I think my top four is outstanding. Hronek is underrated as heck, Klingberg is a beast, Fox is legitimately one of the 5-10 best defensemen in the league, and Severson is enjoying a breakout year. My other four defensemen suck donkey balls, but I think I can shelter the third pairing and play my top four a lot and be just fine.

Goaltending: Varlamov good. Schneider baaaaaaaaad.

Coach: I did draft Bruce Cassidy, who is a terrific coach. He might be able to pull extra wins out.

This is... a bad team. The forwards are absolutely loving dreadful beyond the top five, and even those top five aren't good enough to match the top forwards of other teams. I will have no scoring, and I'll have to rely on playing Varlamov 60+ games and playing my front four defensemen 23-27 minutes each per night. No depth at all and my backup goalie is one of the most useless goalies in the NHL.

The top six is good. The highest scoring player in the bottom six is Lucic. The bottom fell out on the forwards, for sure.

The defense is solid if that top pairing can play 45-50 minutes per game, otherwise there's probably not a worse bottom four in the league.

The top two goalies are good, including playoff godmode Khudobin and .920 Brossoit. Quick falls into the next category.

I started off drafting young players who I thought would improve, then tried to make some bargain buys for players with bad contracts who I thought would be better than their boat anchors. I could argue that Neal scored 19 last year, Lucic is a solid third liner, but the defense looks like someone forgot to put the middle pair on the practice lineups.

Defense was less good with the 3rd line showing up the 2nd line, guess that's why they get paid the big money
