everyone probably has fond memories of children's books from when they were a lil' goon; given current circumstances let's escape into nostalgia and get our caldecott on itt this thread is inspired by me finding out that a bunch of Peter Spier books are no longer in print and now outrageously expensive. I love his art style and had both Rain and Bored-Nothing To Do! and loved them both as a kid. do kids even read picture books anymore?

Couldn't afford picture books when I was kid so I just got looseleaf and told to use my imagination.

Apparently this costs hundreds of dollars now so my soon-to-be-arriving daughter will never get to read it.

This is really nerdy but: When I was in elementary school, maybe 3rd grade or so, I loved reading about Greek myths and legends. One day I discovered a children's introduction to The Iliad and the Odyssey in the school library, and I was enthralled. According to the checkout card, I was the only child to ever check it out, and I did it a lot. For a kid's book it had some really amazing illustrations https://www.google.com/search?q=PRO...ih=944&biw=1920 I really should go buy a copy, there's one on Ebay right now.

one of my favorites has always been the runaway bunny. the illustrations are just perfect and it's about a mother's love for her son: “I will be a bird and fly away from you.” “If you become a bird and fly away from me,” said his mother, “I will be a tree that you come home to.” “If you become a tree,” said the little bunny, “I will become a little sailboat, and I will sail away from you.” “If you become a sailboat and sail away from me,”said his mother, “I will become the wind and blow you where I want you to go.” “If you become the wind and blow me,” said the little bunny, “I will join a circus and fly away on a flying trapeze.” “If you go flying on a flying trapeze,” said his mother, “I will be a tightrope walker, and I will walk across the air to you.”

I don't know if these count, but I used to love the I Spy books as a kid The scenes in the pictures were so intricate. I still think they're pretty cool.
