I'm sure my friends and car aquaintances feel like I've dropped off the planet in the last 3 years. But most of them don't have kids, and the ones that do have also scaled back to doing more family things and fewer "me" things. I still go to a few get-togethers, but not all of them. And the people that think I can still take a very precious Saturday to help them break rusty bolts on their cars can mostly gently caress right off. I'm still perfectly happy to do work on cars for people, and get plenty of work referred my way for the extra $$. But it's definitely a "leave it at my shop, and I'll let you know when I'm done". And with Covid, I definitely don't need people hanging around who aren't taking it as seriously as my wife and I have been. Luckily I've had my 2nd shot on Tuesday, my in-laws are fully vax'ed and have been helping with our kid, and my wife is back to work after a year and getting her first shot next week. Hopefully my family decides they're ready to get their shots all done so they can start seeing us again, but it's been a strained relationship anyway the last couple years, especially since last election.

He's a bit more haphazard than I remember! Standing under a shower of fuel and triggering the pump with a contact switch in his hand; setting fire to bowls of fuel to demonstrate something? I think this is 50/50 editing on wheeler dealers, watch some of the early ones and he is similar to his YouTube videos, and he is just an eccentric guy. As for Derek on VGG it is 100% a character that he hams up but you can see it slip when he is under a time crunch. He did a video recently with Jared from Wrench Everyday and you can see him having to try and not crack when Derek is being dumb but when they are running low on time you can see that Derek does know what he is doing. The stuff he does with his kids is always cute. Just have to ignore his brothers garage with infowars stickers inside it on the episode they revived that locked up old Ford
