The Puppy Bowl posted:Hell, my Dad's been watching the NFL for 60 years so I'm honestly contemplating buying him Packers stock as a novelty Christmas gift. Of course it's dumb but it's not more dumb than buying a jersey or anything else with a NFL logo on it. Just print out a fake one. He'll never know the difference and you save yourself $300. A jersey is so much better. Just get that.

Packer stock is just pricey team memorabilia. I'd rather have a signed helmet or something

Yeah but then 20 years from now Dad's on his death bed and I crack under the pressure, admit it's a fake certificate and he disowns me in front of the whole family. Probably better to just get him some old war books.

EmbryoSteve posted:Packer stock is just pricey team memorabilia. I'd rather have a signed helmet or something It's basically membership to a fan club that you're able to say you're a partial team owner. There's shareholder events and merch. Hanging a share on your wall is cool and the team makes it very clear that it's not real stock. Non-Packers fans think it's dumb, Packers fans think it's cool. If other teams could do the same they absolutely would in a heartbeat.

There was a half-penny sales tax in 2000 that expired in 2015. Everything since then, outside the two stock sales, has been funded by the team. There's a little bit of a kerfuffle right now over whether the team or the city will administer the stadium district (which has been Murphy's pet project).

It was a .5% sales tax on everything, not a "half a penny" tax. https://www.greenbaypressgazette.co...ers/5817065002/ As far as taxes paying for a private stadium go, it's probably about the least onerous in the league, but it's still over $300 million in public money to pay for a billion dollar corporation's infrastructure.
