I keep telling everyone the solution to that dilemma  you get Psycho Slide in Mu, just before you meet the vampires. the arena and their behavior are set up perfectly to direct your slide right into/through one of them. and their big energy ball attack is generally telegraphed well in advance of danger, so I never had much of a problem staking the pair for good. (my problem spots, as I mentioned, were much dumber.)
