https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Oaks_Community,_Virginia I guess you could also count the numerous small-scale co-op housing spaces as well.

The hardest part of a commune would be keeping people like the OP out probably

There's still one shaker colony left. It's only got two people so I'm not sure that counts

I am not sure if these count as "communes" but I would consider then pretty close: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFQJU5np4mI Dude shows the different homes and building techniques/gardening he does in the eco-village https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QcbUN_1lvAA California eco-village/nature preserve https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCGXVk-cBVk Another cool thing, not really a commune, but more like rent-controlled apartments with large parking lot turned into communal gardens. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbeRNFiNDhw The coolest guy ever, Alan (Mushroom) Kapuler, graduated college at like 16 years old, then went on to a PHD program in biology. He lived through the 60's and REAL communes. I forget if it was this interview or another one, but basically he said whenever a commune would run out of drugs/weed, the majority of the people would leave. I cannot stress how cool this guy is, and there are more interviews with him if you search youtube for his name. There are a lot more like this if you do some searching
