Coming a bit late here, but after bouncing off from manga like three times (I never even got to Ai's death) I decide to give the series one last try and watch the first episode and..... I marathoned the entire season over the weekend, so needless to say, it's good.  I think condensing the whole first volume into one movie-length episode was a right move to make and did a lions share of work for me to clear the hurdle of getting through prologue. I can't pinpoint what exactly bothers me in the initial part of the story, but it was just extremely hard for me to get past it. So the big question now is if I am curious about the story to try the manga again, or if I just stick with the anime.....
