5/10. Entertaining at times.....but the writing was real lazy for the majority of it. Also....for how campy it was throughout....the melodramatic turns were super out of place. Not to mention that for a series based on Twisted Metal (which still doesn't make sense after watching the entire season).....there was very little vehicular combat.

Lots of characters introduced with no cars involved. Obviously this sets up season two with the tournament.. Of the characters/cars that DID show up....I'm not sure that ONE special attack appeared. Thought that Twister was going to throw it down for sure. Nope. And the two police henchmen that were blown up....turns out that they were Outlaw 1/2. Pretty iconic character/special that I guess we won't see moving forward. Finally....I did not put Stu and Mike (Hammerhead) together until I looked up the list after the show.

Anyways.....I'll watch the second season assuming that this doesn't get cancelled. Think there's a lot of potential that was bogged down by bad writing.

Much better after getting past the first episode and introducing more characters. The cheekiness of Mackey's character just hasn't worked much.

I think he had maybe one line that I actually laughed at: "You couldn't wait just one more minute?!" But it works because he's just supposed to be a guy who thinks he's incredibly witty and cool, but he's really just more annoying to be around, especially to the angry semi-mute he's stuck with.

He's a fine enough character, but of the four major characters who get origin flashbacks, his is the only one who didn't do anything for me. Agent Stone's is a good explanation for why he's overcompensating on a violent, national level. Sweet Tooth's is incredibly ridiculous. The stuff in Quiet's flashbacks is genuinely disturbing, especially when contrasted with everything else in this post-apocalypse reality. John Doe's is just... there.

They stole a gag from Captain Marvel, but the choice of cardboard cutout in the movie theater segment was perfect. I worked in a movie theater when that loving movie came out and had to sit through it's 15 minutes of deleted scene filler credits while cleaning the theater too many times to count.

I have to imagine the original idea was that Y2K happened and caused societal collapse, but they realized that they needed to stretch it a couple years so they could make some choice references.

This show was pretty stupid and really bordered on twee a lot, but overall I enjoyed it way more than I expected. I watched it all in one sitting which is rare for me. Sweet Tooth was an awesome combination of physical acting from Samoa Joe and Will Arnett for the dialogue which combined really well together, he was really fun. The setup for season 2 is great, I hope they do another one.

Yeah that clip of John and Sweet Tooth in the casino gave me very low expectations, which helped in the long run because the actual show was so much better than that. I watched the whole season in two days because it was just stupid fun that I couldn’t put down.

My main negative is that Anthony Mackie just doesn’t have the right kind of charm for that sort of goofball lead, but he’s still fine and is a good enough actor that he isn’t taking me out of it. Stephanie Beatriz is the real lead of the show imo. She’s the emotional anchor and the one with a real arc.

I’m glad the finale had a good bit of proper Twisted Metal action. I was hoping it would be the full half hour but it only ended up being the first act. If this show gets renewed, I’m not sure it’ll ever have the budget to do the premise justice. But it seems like they’re at least going to try! I did like that the reveal of the tournament at the end showed that all the little characters we met throughout the season will be coming back. The journey across the country really was about the friends we made along the way!

Trailers are constantly trying to oversell things and make them appear better than they actually are, so it's fascinating when one slips out that makes something look worse than it actually is. The original Solar Opposites trailer(s) and official previews of DOOM (2016) were the same way in my opinion.

This was surprisingly good. Not anything exceptional but fun.

You can definitely tell how cheaply produced it was at times. The big fight was like 8 actors and a couple of extras when Agent Stone was supposed to have a big gang.. It was supposed to be post apocalypse but nothing besides Sweet Tooth's casino was wrecked to poo poo. Big mega cities with like 10 homeless people milling around. The CGI was decent. It was obvious but they used it cleverly enough. The script was an ABC plot because I don't think they had that much money to shoot in different locations.

Anthony Mackie isn't that good of an actor and his character kind of sucks. Everyone else is more entertaining. Stephanie Beatriz does okay but she'd probably be better as just another rider in the story instead of a main supporting actress. Samoa Joe and Will Arnett do great comboing for Sweet Tooth. The character kind of sucks at first then finds its groove later. My only problem is they play him more childlike than pure psychopath from the games. Thomas Haden Church is great and tried in a project that's definitely beneath him.

The show should just follow Stu and Mike. They're way better reality grounding characters and have twice the chemistry of Mackie and Beatriz.

This works with the vague but specific millennial nostalgia this show is going for.

Finished the show. Felt it kind of lost it at the end a bit, focusing more on the relationship between John and Quiet instead of the wacky characters and world. Glad they wrapped it up at 10, could've probably done with 8.

I could see this working. I don't care about John or Quiet or the tournament really, but an anthology of Stu and Mike running in to different wacky drivers could work for follow ups, with Sweet Tooth of course showing up constantly because Sweet Tooth.

I really love Stephanie Beatriz's performance in this, she's just focused on being as expressive as possible without much interest in decorum. You can see a similar thing with Anthony Mackie, but he feels less comfortable with what he's trying to do.

This sixth episode is great, the show is great.

I don’t understand the Mackey hate. It’s all tongue and cheek and clearly over the top. I don’t think he did a bad job. I do wish they focused less on the whole stone storyline and just had him as a cruising vigilante, but Im not a show runner.

What I am worried about is that the second season isn’t going to be the tournament but all the plot and world building again.

I wouldn't say it's hate it's just more that his character kind of sucks. Same with Stephanie Beatriz's character. You go from tyrant cop and serial killer clown into girl with a dark past and quirky guy who has amnesia. Stu and Mike are a little bit better just because their characters are second fiddle to the actual big named Twisted Metal characters. It's kind of like the main character from the latest Mortal Kombat movie. He's not bad, it's just that he's a sore thumb addition that takes away from the much cooler Sub Zero and Scorpion.

I thought Quiet became a really bad character as the show went on. She has a sad backstory sure, but she is so unrelentingly unlikable it's hard to believe John Doe would continue to put up with this person who hasn't done anything for him aside from berating him, drugging him, and otherwise screwing him over whenever given the chance.

After she refuses to help him with Evelyn and then berates him later for trying I was pretty much done with her. And it made John Doe look like a dipshit for kissing her rear end over and over when she's really not showing herself to be any kind of helpful, reliable, or nice person.

Overall I really enjoyed the season. A ton more than I thought I would and the dual Sweet Tooth roles worked so, so much better than I thought it would. Really fun summer show.

Reviving this dead thread because we got a Peacock subscription and clicked into this show expecting it to be awful.

It’s shockingly competent. For the first half of the season, at least. I think the writing is genuinely funny and Sweet Tooth steals every scene he’s in.

The second half of the season, however, is garbo. The romance is too weighty on a fun show. There are too many death fakeouts. The story spins its wheels and ends up relying on narrative shortcuts like characters doing exposition dumps. Even dead characters!

The production values are pretty bad. They had no money to make this and it shows in the casting, production design, CGI, cinematography and editing. The final showdown is a total mess visually. I can’t imagine how they’re gonna deliver what’s promised in Season 2 on this type of budget. (Yes, it got renewed.)

Also, Beatriz is such a poor casting decision it’s almost fatal. She has no range. She cannot deliver vulnerability. She’s perfect on Brooklyn Nine-Nine and would probably be great playing the exact same caricature here.

Sorry to ramble but there’s also a weird casting thing where this show has Asian people only in San Francisco and nowhere else. They filmed a pretty diverse pilot, picked two minority actors for the leads and then cast white people pretty much everywhere else. Felt cynical.

Sweet Tooth's physical actor is Samoa Joe whose not a white guy, if that counts. If Season 2 does happen they're having the tournament which I'm super excited about, they've already pulled a bunch of stuff out of the pocket including the God Code from TM2 which I still remember to this day.
