A few days ago I brought up the true fact that since the introduction of the Premier League in 1992, when the old first division became the second tier (still confusingly called division one for a bit), all so-called 'league titles' won since then are fraudulent and invalid. Leeds United won the last top-flight Division One Championship in 1991/92, and are therefore still true and rightful champions of England until the long running 30 year vanity competition goes bust (any day now)

With this in mind I thought I'd dive into the stats to see who the champs would be if the true league title changed hands with wins like a boxing championship, if we had any repeat winners or record reigns.

For the purposes of this statistical rummage a team loses the title with a defeat to any team in any league or cup competition (friendlies don't count largely because it's hard to find data on these and I cba). Once we get up to present day we can start tracking it on a regular basis so will look to get this up to date by the start of the season.

Also I know I could just type in 'who is the lineal champion of England' and get an answer going back to the 1800s but that's cheating.

1992/93 season

Leeds United start the season as title holders. They:

Blackburn Rovers end the season as FLHW champions (their second title win), and as per the rules that I am making up as I write this post they will retain the title through the summer of '93 to next season.

In one season of football we've had more title winners than in 30 years of the so-called 'Premier' so-called 'League'. Stay tuned for the next thrilling instalment
