I keep trying to remember, on this topic, that we're still only 2/3s of the way through the trilogy, and it's possible that anything that would be confusing for someone who hasn't played the original is supposed to be. I dunno though, it's hard to imagine that point of view. I do think things are meant to be unclear though.
