We're live tonight with Josh Brolin and Ariana Grande, both returning for their third time on the show! Grande first appeared nearly ten years ago for the S40 premiere and was last on 8 years ago in March 2016, when she did double duty. Brolin's debut was in 2008, with his followup appearance in 2012 being notable for being in the first Californians sketch. I never cared for that sketch but people like it. It's weird how tonight's lineup is two two-timers returning after a long absence. Both have had solid outings previously. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt-tG6ufH90 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm6ta738ZhI This one is not officially online (she sings a bunch of other people's songs) and the bootleg tube rips are crunchy and zoomed so just go to the show on Archive and jump to 47:27 (first post-Update sketch) to see the Tidal musical impression sketch And of course, this all-timer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6hEfK5C-Sg Oddly, the show also uploaded the dress version of that Californians https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-BmxK-0Jts Now we're all caught up, let's get hype https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3upVzupcRg We're shooting some hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwBG84Z97EM Now it's Wednesday. We're reading the sketches, we're laughing i hope, please god let poo poo be funny this week We're also shooting some hoops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwBG84Z97EM And on Thursday we're doing the Thursday promo shoot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUnW_0ShOmM We're flubbing https://twitter.com/nbcsnl/status/1766205139688243406 And we're ready for another prime time previous-week repeat in the 10pm slot, oh boy. Sydney Sweeney ep.

Nice to see someone supporting their spouse at work for once.

Solid cold open. I mean, yeah, it was some pretty low hanging fruit, but still.

Is it just me or is Brolin playing this husband as stereo-typically gay?

Well, that cat sketch was just weird.

Dammit I was totally primed for that cat to just start projectile vomiting everywhere. The blood at the end was fiiiiine but I miss the sketches that go totally OTT with gore.

This shrimp tower sketch isn't working for me either. Edit: Man, what's going on with Michael Che today DaveWoo fucked around with this message at 06:30 on Mar 10, 2024 |

Suuuuper disappointed they didn’t find a way to combine Sarah Sherman and ScarJo for WU. Cmon people.

Bowen’s constant breaking without ruining his singing was pretty great, saved a sketch that wasn’t really hitting potential.

So they're trying this again, huh.

honestly I thought this episode ruled not every sketch was a winner but Airplane Song hit for me hard I was watching things in the random-rear end order they get uploaded you YouTube and already forgot they tried Lisa From Temecula again. please let it die

Seemed like the best SNL episode they've done in quite a while IMO. Reasonable sketches all the way.

SLICK GOKU BABY posted:Seemed like the best SNL episode they've done in quite a while IMO. Reasonable sketches all the way. Yeah, definitely felt like a step up from previous episodes. Started with a fun, goofy energy that kind of curdled a bit around the middle, with some sketches that felt more weird and offputting than actually funny. But still a decent episode overall. Sivart13 posted:I was watching things in the random-rear end order they get uploaded you YouTube and already forgot they tried Lisa From Temecula again. please let it die Yeah, they keep trying to recapture lightning in a bottle with that sketch, and it hasn't worked either time they've tried it.

I thought it was the best episode in a long time. Easy best since Adam Driver's ep earlier this season.

I mean it helps when you have a host the caliber of Josh Brolin instead of... whatever the other hosts these last batch of shows have been. Though I notice they couldn't help also having Brolin show off his boobs as well.

Yeah, this was one of the best episodes this season. Almost each sketch played, until the last one. Even the Moulin Rouge sketch was great. Though I agree, what the hell was going on with Che? Was he okay?

I thought the moulin Rouge one was really funny. But overall, someone said it earlier: the writers don't know how to end these skits. Really undercuts even the funny skits.

i really can't think of any period in SNL history where they had good endings. tbh I think that's actually the whole reason it's called "sketch" comedy, you have a hastily drawn up premise to get the jokes in and they're very rarely gonna have an arc that makes sense overall. some really good stuff in this episode, Josh Brolin seems like such a genuine weirdo. his Hot Ones episode is great

Maybe it wasn’t as bad as the last few weeks, but it was still another dud in my books. Don’t think I’ll be revisiting a single sketch from last night. This is a real rough patch for sure, which is frustrating because I like the whole cast.
|
# ? Mar 10, 2024 22:07 |
I think SNL does endings just fine plenty of times. It's just more noticeable when they don't. Even so I think it's an artificial demand, not every sketch has to have the same structure. I'm fine with them exploring a joke or a gag even if it doesn't have a natural wrap up or whatever. It bothers me much more when they explain or point out their own jokes or absurdities. Just undermines their own jokes, Simpsons does the same thing these days.

Lisa from Temecula must be fun for the cast members in it but it really only worked the first time from an audience perspective.

Lol I thought it was funnier than the first one. I watched the Sydney Sweeney EP and the brolin last night and they were both pretty funny. I was definitely in the ideal SNL mood, I almost didn't even skip the cold opens. I maintain that 50% of enjoyment of SNL is entirely a personal problem disconnected from the material itself.

I can't find this SNL skit. Heidi Gardner was a main one in it and the main joke as I recall is every kept appending "lehrr" to the end of their sentences, like a declarative of some kind. I think it was just a throwaway ad skit.

Thank you, I searched for every version of Lerrh spelling I could think of and I mostly got Larry David. I can't be objective about this skit now because the combo of the dumbass of the joke itself and the satisfaction of getting a thorn out of your paw and it being Friday clock out of work time is making this way funnier than it should be.
