I watched the Kawada vs Hashimoto match, and although it was not great, I really like the camera shot where the ring looks like a diamond and I wish I could see it come up during American matches. Reminds me of Fire Pro

That match is all about Hashimoto being awesome. Focused offense, great selling, and he never shrugged off the injury. For most of their careers Kawada was way better night after night, but there it wasn't even close in favor of Hash. RIP

Well that's just volume 1 silly And you're dealing with some long-rear end bouts. That volume is only matches which received a decent amount of praise. I'd say half of them are overrated but then I'm pickier than most. Disc 2 is solidly better but disc 1 has more important matches. Put another way, everything there is good and/or significant.

Honestly though, I'd say watch the 7/18, 8/19, 9/18, 11/5 and 12/4 NOAH shows, plus 1/14 Dragon Gate and suppliment liberally with downloads. So much of the rest is just missable.

So I just watched the Lesnar/Chono/Fujita IWGP title match from 10/8/05 and was horribly underwhelmed. The match was just plain boring and it seems to me like the IWGP title deserves a match longer than 8:09. I figure maybe I just don't "get" Puro. What's the opinion on it 'round these parts?
|
# ? Feb 8, 2006 08:08 |

Nobody liked it. Literally nobody. The other Lesnar matches haven't been much better. Why must you suck now Brock In other news, NOAH is more interested in the US. After the response they got in ROH and having seen the sales of pirated DVDs online (!!!) they're looking into how to capture the market and enforce copyright laws (!!!!!!!!!). KENTA, Marufuji and Kobashi now have visas that would allow for longer/more trips to the US. So that's a mixed bag. In Japan DVDs are crazy expensive. edit: New avatar. Thanks for making it Coffey! I'm honestly baffled. NJ and TNA was supposed to be the next big thing (lol block resna, WWE and NJ are going at it over the IWGP champ, lord knows NJ talent is useless in WWE... maybe they want to co-promote in Japan because both are struggling? Today's PuroPulse won't cover it because I'm flat-footed on the subject. Meanwhile I love this pic

This may have been noted already by somebody somewhere here but I forget where. If it was, it deserves to be restated. Everybody should watch The Calamari Wrestler. It's a movie about a dead wrestler who comes back in the form of a huge squid to fight for the IMGP title. I won't give away any other aspects of the main story 'cause it's full of hilarious developments. It stars Osamu Nishimura as The Calamari Wrestler and features a guest appearance from Takayama, one of the greatest men to ever live. It references Inoki's fighting spirit, and a Fire Pro style renaming of Rikidozan (Godozan). It has great quotes such as "But Calamari is banned from wrestling, how will he support me?" The storyline will be hilarious to anybody who's a fan of Japanese Pro-Wrestling. I got it for like 13 bucks from overstock.com

Evans is a great whipping boy. First off he is the most bendable wrestler ever bar none, get ROH 6/24/04 (Survival of the Fittest 1) for proof. Second he bumps huge. Third he's unselfish. His offense is... limited, so I'm not sure how good he'll be in a less mat-worky Dragon Gate, but hey they like him. On a related note I just saw Cabana's Zero-One debut and I think he's gonna do just fiiiiiine

Someone from Japan used it?! Not anyone recently that's for sure. I thought Danielson was a trailblazer in that regard. Closest I can think of is Masa Fuchi using DANGER ZONE~. edit: Yahoo search tells me Mutoh used it in the mid '80s.
