No idea why this doesn't work when looking to the right, but I'd guess it's tied to the bug that lets you shoot grenades through the gates during setup.

It appears where the barrel would be making contact to the object if you could get just that much closer. I think it is to do with that it dosen't have enough time to even exit the barrel before it hits the object.

I'm surprised games like A Tale in the Desert or Entropia Universe are not hit more. Anyone have any good stories from those?

The only griefing I remember from ATITD was people intentionally catching and spreading the plague. Holy poo poo that pissed people off.

That would make sense with only being able to produce the bug by looking to the left, since all of the player models are right handed.

At one point in an earlier ATITD Telling, a foreign NPC popped up, who refused to trade or deal with female characters. That pissed a lot of people off, especially given how egalitarian the game was.

Alright. Time to kick back for another UO story. This time on the famous IPY shard run by the WTFMan crew before it was run to the ground by Azeroth or whatever the gently caress the dick's name was.

I was chilling at the bank, deciding to take a break from stealing and killing people who had foolishly decided to attack me (I was a pvp thief.) and I was just watching people go around their business when I see someone by the name of AcidBart selling a silver vanquishing katana with all the trimmings for 35K. I had decided to make an attempt at stealing it from her to make a quick buck, even if I get guardwhacked no biggy because I had poo poo all on me at the time. And so...Checking my current balance, all I had at the moment was a vanquishing broadsword and 15K. So I tried to offer that to her, and she declined. Bummer. So I figured that hey, may as well try to steal it from the dude who buys it. So some guy comes up and offers said money, and I get ready to move in once the trade was complete. And as I'm waiting, I notice the guy suddenly wield an axe, I hear the telltale chop of a box breaking, and I see a countdown with a ton of potions at the dude's feet. I backed the hell away, but apparently ol' AcidBart didn't seem to notice the countdown. And so, she gets guardwhacked, she dies from mass explosion syndrome, and she falls, silver vanquishing katana with all the trimmings on her corpse.

I'd like to take a break at this moment to tell you that there was an interesting bug going on at the time in IPY. If you had something on your cursor, and you got insta-guardwhacked, it would bug out so the item was still on your cursor even if you couldn't see it. You couldn't pick up anything as a result due to the now invisible object being on your cursor and the only way to get rid of it would be to log out, which would drop said item at your feet. And now, back to the story...

So I looked at the katana, and I hesitated. I quickly remembered said bug, and I took a very quick check of my current inventory. Nothing valuable, everything banked away. And so I yanked the katana, and I get guard whacked. So I wait for my grey timer to go to 0. I rez myself, go to an empty, hidden corner, and log out and log back in and 'lo and behold, the katana was at my feet. Equipping it in my hand, I run down to the bank when who should I see but acidbart! She goes into a diatribe of how her cousin or something was the owner of the shard and I would be banned and she'd get her katana back if I didn't give it to her which was bullshit because for one, it was a typical trammie threat, and two, I knew the owner of the shard. So I laugh it off and head back to the bank, when I see the strangest site. My corpse was untouched. Everything I had on me (bone armor I liked to wear for the fashion and some throwaway spear among other things) were still there, on my corpse. Apparently people must have thought I died in the explosion too so they wouldn't risk looting me. So I banked the katana and relished my victory. The End....or is it?

Long story short: Some chick gets bombed by a scammer, I loot the katana, I profit. HOWEVER, there is more to this story that really spirals it into something special, however I've made too huge a wall of text already. So I'll post it later. I also have another story, "The one thief siege of Britain" as I call it. So see you guys a few posts down the road!

If i'm not mistaken a "shard" is just another name for a server to play on, yes? In that case, how exactly does someone run a server into the ground? I'm not familiar with all these terms so excuse me if I sound daft or anything, but that sounds interesting to me. Perhaps you could throw it in with your next story?

A minor one and not as funny as others in the thread, but back when I used to play Command & Conquer: Renegade (which, annoyingly enough, I cant get back into because the community that now owns the servers just seems despicably up it's own rear end), was that playing as the GDI I found out you could fit a Humvee inside an Advanced Guard Tower. Normally, buildings could be accessed on foot only, but I found that the Humvee was the right size and shape to just about wrangle it into the Guard Tower doorway. I think I could get it into certain other building doors as well, but it was trickier to do.

Anyway, persisting a bit I found it was possible to get the entire Humvee into the Guard Tower, where it basically took up all the space in the room. There was no way around it. GDI who respawned into the guard tower or enemies who had managed to successfully rush the tower were met with the sight of a large armoured car in a space only just big enough to contain it.

What was annoying for the GDI though, was that friendly fire was off by default - if someone was inside the Humvee, they couldn't damage it. The only way to damage it was to wait for the driver to get out (which made it neutral and therefore fair game), or for a Nod player to get into the vehicle (which wasn't exactly likely in the circumstances). So if I just sat inside the Humvee, none of my teammates would be able to damage it - thus if they were unlucky enough to respawn into the guard tower, they were stuck there until I got out of the vehicle or Nod came along and blew it up.

Also, the drama that ensued from jacking other people's vehicles was hilarious. You'd just hear a voice spam of about 6-7 "Get out of the Vehicle!" soundbites, then they'd start the indignant raging and whining on allchat. This was especially funny if you stole a Mammoth Tank costing about 1500 credits then just suicided it into the nearest enemy.

On the In Por Ylem (commonly referred to as "IPY") free Ultima Online shard they put up a moongate next to the West Brit Bank at one point. There were elementals in there and gates to other places. When people died in there they came to town and got resurrected then ran back through the gate to try and get their loot back. I decided one day out of boredom to just stand on the gate for hours without moving. In doing this nobody could possibly get through the gate.

I took several screen shots and compiled them into a flash video along with the song Move Bitch get out the Way. Which was a quote often captured in the screen shots. I had several players try to murder me in that time only to get guard whacked themselves. The purple potion and poisoned dagger attacks couldn't thwart me. I even had a few players curing and healing me during the attacks. I guess they felt the same way I did about the gate. The GM's got several pages about the incident but they never did intervene, a couple just thought it was hilarious.

It was the varying reactions I got from the players that made this great. I got quite a few of the classic "i'll kick your rear end irl you pussy fagot assholer" threats along with the other basic threats. I even had people begging me to move so they could get their loot back.

We should really consider turning Team Flare into a general greifing group and mix it up a little and get more creative. That is if we don't already have something like this. We could do things like all going melee as one class or seeing how long we can make it look like were playing without firing a single shot. Stuff that's more subtle and less likely to get us outright banned.

Yeah, while crashing the server gives us a clear and defined "yay, victory, we won!", it's much more funny when we just dance on the edge of crashing it and hold the server hostage, telling people we'll crash it if they don't voteban some popular player (and having our demands met!)

I like the idea of sticking together in a general TF2 griefing pack, but really - we're banded up to spam flares and we probably won't have this exploit for more than a few hours/days, so we'd best get our laggy glowing jollies now.

Oh.

Honestly it's pretty drat easy. The level of skill difference between a scrub and a higher-level tournament player is incredibly significant and really makes the actual excersize completely pointless. It's pretty similar to attempting to beat a tournament Quake player when you are just a random pubby: you aren't even going to land 1 kill, and might not even land 1 hit.

Unfortunately I haven't really played for about a year or two, or I'd have some recorded matches to show, but talk to any other fighting game goons and they'll concur. The only time I'm going to get hit against a random arcade scrub is if he is mashing out uppercuts and gets lucky at the perfect time, and I am not specifically playing safe to bait his random uppercuts but instead just rushing him down to hurry up and win the match so i can play against someone else.
