Agreed that I can't stand a TV so high up out of eye level. The setup is an absolute trainwreck and I'm happy everyone else thinks so. The least to do to make it better: - Center the TV over the fireplace and lower it. - Get rid of everything on the mantle - Get a media stand to put all the boxes down and right by the outlet/cable box - Run the wires right on the right edge on the fireplace to hide them a bit - Maybe even add some moulding/trim to go over the wires that would hide them If there's some problem that the TV can't be mounted directly above the fireplace then simply don't wall mount it. Can doesn't equal Should.

Quick shop, this is the least I would do again. I'd get a nice stand, maybe even one that's a cabinet with a door for the boxes.

Yeah I've always realized how trashed the setup came together once I was done. It was a much better idea on paper unfortunately. I'm only in this house for a bit longer so I'm not planning on changing anything however I definitely will not be wall mounting next time. The reason the TV is not centered is because of the strange layout of the living room. If it was centered it would not be centered with the couch arrangement. Also the actual mount could not be centered because of how the studs lined up in the wall. I never use my fireplace so the speakers being so close to it has not been a problem at all.

Take TV off of wall, cut 2" hole in drywall with holesaw bit 2. do the same with the speakers at the base of the wall where it meets the floor and one somewhere behind every piece of equip. you have on the wall. 3. Snakeskin every wire so that the end of the snakeskin is INSIDE the wall and 2" from the connector. 4. For the love of christ run all your wires inside the drywall and not everywhere OUTSIDE the drywall.. the way you have it looks ENTIRELY like poo poo and you technically haven't re-wired/re-routed a goddamn thing. If you worked for my company and left something looking like that.. you'd be doing one of two things. 1. Re-doing all the Rhino Liner in all the work vans 2. Sitting at the Unemployment line.

Not that I'm hating on this guy in particular, I just think that mounting TVs so high on a wall, especially over a fireplace, is a bad idea in absolutely every instance. It's aesthetically pleasing in theory, especially for the Wife Approval Factor, but jesus christ it makes watching the drat thing totally uncomfortable. The wire hanging everywhere is just the poo poo icing on the dirt cake. I can't understand why you thought it was a good idea to hang the components, either. Basically once you had the idea to cram all that stuff around the TV it was doomed from the start. I'd just go with a basic stand when you get to your new place.

$70 Don't use the screws or bolts that come with it though, they aren't strong enough for that size TV. You'll have to buy seperate ones. There was a PS3 with this setup, but its just been sold. I guess it wasn't all that entertaining. The 7.1, however, goes off its loving head.

Also, obviously I don't know your room/space constraints but I would consider looking for a spot for the screen that didn't put it so close to that glass door.

Still not exactly cheap, but I'm pretty sure I can knock the walls down in my apartment if I cranked it up all the way. All I need now is to finally plunk down some change for a sub.

I've been searching through this thread trying to find images with what I am looking for in them but haven't had much luck. I'm about to move into a new place where I'll finally be able to mount my 40" LCD on the wall (my current walls are poo poo and will not hold the weight, it's very sad). I'll be getting rid of my TV stand because of this but still need some sort of tower or rack that can hold a cable box, DVD player, 360, small cable modem, and a router. I was thinking some sort of small, but thin in depth, type shelf maybe? Or is there a wall mounted setup that looks good? Anyone have any recommendations?

My setup is a constant work in progress which started in 2001. I currently have: Sony KV30HS420 HD CRT Yamaha RXV-595A Xbox 360 Sharp Aquos BD-HP20 Fronts are PSB Image 4T Surrounds are PSB Image 2B No centre channel I really like my TV. I picked it up for $250 CAD last year from a client. It replaced my 6 year old Sony KV32FS13. I love my speakers, but it's the amp I am thinking about replacing now. My work sells Yamaha, and I like the brand, so I am looking at getting the RXV-663. I got my Sharp Blu-Ray player 2 days ago and hot drat I need to borrow Planet Earth from my brother and buy a eighth of weed.

Got the TV moved up to the new apartment. Unfortunately, that coffee table is all my friend and I can afford in ways of a TV stand at the moment, so we'll be ghettoizing it up for a bit. All we have to work with right now are two 4' tall Fisher speakers and two Polk bookshelves, and an old Kenwood receiver without a remote that only supports 4 speakers, but it sure as hell beats nothing. Until we get a center channel and a new receiver, we won't be worrying about the TV stand, hell me might night get one at all. Do they make stands to put to the side of TVs to host all the peripherals (Xbox 360, DVD player, receiver, etc)? I like the look of glass TV stands, so something fancy looking like that would be sweet.

RE: fireplace mounting. I go into some houses and their tv's are literally mounted something like 8ft off the ground. You have to look up while standing just to see it, i cant imagine sitting at their couch 10ft from it.

Ah exactly what I am looking for BattleHork! However, I don't know if we'll have any room for it. We got everything hooked up for now until we buy a new center channel and receiver and we don't have much room to work with. This is how it stands now: It'll look better next time I am up there to tidy up the wires and put all the DVDs in racks, but like I said, not much room to work with.

get a small rack that matches the coffee table and you'll be good. It looks like it works fine and doesn't look so bad. It could be worse, you could have gone the old cinderblocks and 2x4 route.

Coffee tables make great TV stands. Way better than most of the hulking monstrosities people use. Audio piers are pretty much the greatest things ever. They look and function way better than cramming everything on shelves below your TV.
