Yeah, I did use different legs. They recommend using an additional set if you're going to put some weight on there.

There isn't any reason this couldn't be fixed. Would just take a little time and effort and this could look pretty decent. I'm not a fan of the hardware on the wall, but it could still look better with a little time and sweat.

Is it good to have the speakers so close to the fireplace?

Everything looks terrible, sorry. Just get a regular media stand.

Agreed that I can't stand a TV so high up out of eye level.

The setup is an absolute trainwreck and I'm happy everyone else thinks so. The least to do to make it better:

- Center the TV over the fireplace and lower it.
- Get rid of everything on the mantle
- Get a media stand to put all the boxes down and right by the outlet/cable box
- Run the wires right on the right edge on the fireplace to hide them a bit
- Maybe even add some moulding/trim to go over the wires that would hide them

If there's some problem that the TV can't be mounted directly above the fireplace then simply don't wall mount it. Can doesn't equal Should.

The Dave

Quick shop, this is the least I would do again. I'd get a nice stand, maybe even one that's a cabinet with a door for the boxes.

Yeah I've always realized how trashed the setup came together once I was done. It was a much better idea on paper unfortunately. I'm only in this house for a bit longer so I'm not planning on changing anything however I definitely will not be wall mounting next time.

The reason the TV is not centered is because of the strange layout of the living room. If it was centered it would not be centered with the couch arrangement. Also the actual mount could not be centered because of how the studs lined up in the wall.

I never use my fireplace so the speakers being so close to it has not been a problem at all.

1. Take TV off of wall, cut 2" hole in drywall with holesaw bit
2. do the same with the speakers at the base of the wall where it meets the floor and one somewhere behind every piece of equip. you have on the wall.
3. Snakeskin every wire so that the end of the snakeskin is INSIDE the wall and 2" from the connector.
4. For the love of christ run all your wires inside the drywall and not everywhere OUTSIDE the drywall.. the way you have it looks ENTIRELY like poo poo and you technically haven't re-wired/re-routed a goddamn thing.

If you worked for my company and left something looking like that.. you'd be doing one of two things.

1. Re-doing all the Rhino Liner in all the work vans
2. Sitting at the Unemployment line.

Not that I'm hating on this guy in particular, I just think that mounting TVs so high on a wall, especially over a fireplace, is a bad idea in absolutely every instance.

It's aesthetically pleasing in theory, especially for the Wife Approval Factor, but jesus christ it makes watching the drat thing totally uncomfortable. The wire hanging everywhere is just the poo poo icing on the dirt cake. I can't understand why you thought it was a good idea to hang the components, either. Basically once you had the idea to cram all that stuff around the TV it was doomed from the start. I'd just go with a basic stand when you get to your new place.

Hey cool. I'm getting a similar setup for 7.1, but with older/smaller RTi stuff:
L/R RTi8
C: CSi3
R: RTi4
S: FXi3
Sub: Hsu STF-2

Everything is on route except for the FXi3s. I might have to get the FXi A4s, as the FXi3s have been sold out for awhile now. The RTi A5s look cool, but I don't think I'll be able to tell the difference between them and the older 8's.

Don't use the screws or bolts that come with it though, they aren't strong enough for that size TV. You'll have to buy seperate ones.

There was a PS3 with this setup, but its just been sold. I guess it wasn't all that entertaining. The 7.1, however, goes off its loving head.

I think the biggest problem here is the Love Guru on the screen.

Seriously though, aren't you worried about something letting go and having your equipment fall off the wall? Call me parnoid but I always like my gear near the floor. Also, obviously I don't know your room/space constraints but I would consider looking for a spot for the screen that didn't put it so close to that glass door.

They are oldschool Bose speakers. They may not be the best anymore in terms of specs - but they are terrific for music, and the Rotel amp there has plenty of grunt to give. Rated at I think 60W per channel, but it's been tested at a continuous 100W/channel. The speakers I got from Dad - they're his old ones, and the amp I bought for $300.

I've got that one set up alongside my usual setup, pictured below, because it's not revealing. Most things sound great. Whereas my main system sounds absolutely shitful for anything that isn't produced well.

Receiver: Denon 4306
Fronts: Boston VR3
Center: B&W HTM7
Rear: Polk Fxi5
Surrond Rear: Polk Fxi3
TV: Some 42" Westinghouse model (my roomate owns this so I'm not completely sure)

I bought everything one by one which would explain the wide range of models that I'm running but I got everything on clearance so a 5K+ system only ran me about 3.5K. Still not exactly cheap, but I'm pretty sure I can knock the walls down in my apartment if I cranked it up all the way. All I need now is to finally plunk down some change for a sub.

I've been searching through this thread trying to find images with what I am looking for in them but haven't had much luck. I'm about to move into a new place where I'll finally be able to mount my 40" LCD on the wall (my current walls are poo poo and will not hold the weight, it's very sad). I'll be getting rid of my TV stand because of this but still need some sort of tower or rack that can hold a cable box, DVD player, 360, small cable modem, and a router. I was thinking some sort of small, but thin in depth, type shelf maybe? Or is there a wall mounted setup that looks good?

Anyone have any recommendations?

I have this base and my plasma wall mounted, but since you cant wallmount, this seems like the perfect option for you. Looks just like a wallmount.

Got the TV moved up to the new apartment.

Unfortunately, that coffee table is all my friend and I can afford in ways of a TV stand at the moment, so we'll be ghettoizing it up for a bit. All we have to work with right now are two 4' tall Fisher speakers and two Polk bookshelves, and an old Kenwood receiver without a remote that only supports 4 speakers, but it sure as hell beats nothing.

Until we get a center channel and a new receiver, we won't be worrying about the TV stand, hell me might night get one at all. Do they make stands to put to the side of TVs to host all the peripherals (Xbox 360, DVD player, receiver, etc)? I like the look of glass TV stands, so something fancy looking like that would be sweet.

Ah exactly what I am looking for BattleHork! However, I don't know if we'll have any room for it. We got everything hooked up for now until we buy a new center channel and receiver and we don't have much room to work with. This is how it stands now:
