I live in a closet. Well not exactly a closet, but the worlds smallest apartment. So enjoy the fisheye perspective!

Yes, I know projector cable = bad. I had them covered to match the wall, but I added a new HDMI cable Tuesday, and now I have to get a new cover for the cables. I live in apartment so they look down on cutting holes into walls hide cable runs. I also hate that ceiling fan. Renting is frustrating.

No, my setup is not curved. Photo stitching is just that awesome. Showing today is

32" Sony Xbr2
Sanyo z5 & 84" screen
Panasonic SA- XR57
Philips DVP 5982
Direct TV HD box
360
PS2
Monoprice 4x2 matrixing HDMI switch
Inday component distribution amp
JBL something speakers.
Old Media PC Running XBMC
Harmony 550
Badass Mini fridge
Wicked big bear
Cheap sub mounted to the couch. Not a real buttkicker but still a lot of fun.

The shelves, tv stand, audio pier, and speakers stands were built by me. I still haven't gotten around to backing the shelves because I am lazy. I will probably back them with mirror panels. I also need to build a frame to border the screen, but work has been keeping me busy. You can't see them but the power cable situation is pretty bad. I think I need to build a mirrored cable box so I can hide the APC and excess power cables. I also am having a hell of a time finding the curtains I am looking for to finish the window off.

The matrix switch is pretty sweet. We game a lot at my place so being able to mix and match sources and components is useful. Want to play the 360 on the projector and retro game off the media PC on the LCD? Two clicks on the harmony and your ready to go.

I am seriously jealous of you guys that have real houses or condos. I am a big DIY guy, and I dream of being able to actually do some interior work. I have a horrible popcorn ceiling and this tacky fan. The entire place drives me nuts. I want a smooth ceiling, hardwood floors, and crown molding drat it!

Yah, I don't mind the space so much to be honest, but I hate the "build quality" of the place. It is just a cheap apartment. The thing is I would pay almost twice as much to rent a nice apartment, and that cost difference would be enough for me to personally redo half the poo poo I want to in the first month (redo the ceiling, new paint+molding etc) which is idiotic. I am holding out for a new job and a condo. The room itself is only like 11.5x15.

I really don't like the look of the box around the TV. I think the KURO sets look pretty awesome due to the small size of the bezel, and the box is kind of detracting from that.

Personally I think removing the box and taking the speakers off the TV would make the whole thing look a lot more slick.

Heres my current setup. Just changed it a bit last weekend. Had a loft bed right above it but took that apart and now have my bed temporary on the floor behind the chair.
37" 1080p Westinghouse
logitech z680s (which I'm playing with the though of replacing them with real speakers, just need to figure out where I'd put them)
60 gig PS3
Xbox 360
Gaming computer

It works well for me, I just need to get a new bed frame to lift it about a foot and a half off the ground so i can be more comfortable watching poo poo.

It was a toss up between the box or looking at the side/back/wires of the tv every time I walk into my place. Power cord, 3 HDMI, Component, Composite and RS-232 are alot of wires to look at. I agree with you though, a flush or even semi-flush would look much better. Also, the box needs to be finish sanded and painted gloss black which should help a little.

im still not sure what you mean when you say "flush"? do you mean on a wall mount or mounted as close to the wall as possible? what type of wallmount is it on now??

I'm using this bracket:

http://www.chiefmfg.com/productdetail.aspx?MountID=56

When I say "flush" or "semi-flush" I'm actually referring to the way the bracket is attached to the wall. Mine is just mounted right on the wall with 4 lag bolts into studs.

Flush would require a large cut out in the wall the size of the entire display and usually about an inch or two more. The cut out would also have to be about 6 or 7 inches deep which is just not possible with the wall I put it on.

Semi-flush would be a cutout just large enough for the bracket to be recessed in the wall. This only requires the cutout to only be a couple inches deep and still hides most of the wires and the actual bracket. However the front edge of the display would still be about 5 inches off the wall (currently 7 inches with my install)

I'll add some pictures next week.

I decided to post some pictures of the current status of the home theater. Right now, the next major item I need is a new flat panel TV for mounting above the mantle. I'm going to go with the new 52" Sharp Aquos XS. With the current setup our old TV sits on a pedestal in front of our fireplace, so when I get the new Aquos XS it can go above the mantle because I specifically designed the wall behind the mantle does not get warm at all, plus I have an outlet and a PVC conduit with a 12 foot HDMI running through it to connect the future TV to my Pioneer 1018 receiver. The next upgrade after that is to get some new floorstanding Klipsch Icon towers and a new Klipsch Icon center channel, and a new Klipsch Icon sub.

In the pictures you can see my current setup, a pair of JBL HLS-810 bookshelfs for Front L/R, JBL Studio Series Center, and 2 pairs of JBL Soundpoint 8 Series II in-wall speakers for Surround L/R and Rear L/R. You can see some of the in-wall binding posts for my in wall speaker wiring, I can post some of the pictures from before the drywall went up if you want to see how I wired things.

These pics are big and I was too lazy to resize them.

There is actually a real gas fireplace behind the TV. We hate the fact that it sits in front of the fireplace, but since the current TV is a tube TV, it needs a sturdy pedestal to support it and the mantle won't cut it nor is it wide enough. The new flat panel will be on a fully articulated mounting arm that attaches it to the wall above the fireplace. The power outlet and the HDMI cable is already ran through the wall and awaiting a new TV.

The bonus of having the current TV in front of the fireplace is that it bugs the hell out of me and my girlfriend's OCD tendencies. It makes for a compelling reason to get a new flat panel, especially since Sharp's new Aquos XS line is loving optical sex.

Yeah, it's pretty seemless and slick. It gives you the iPod interface on the TV screen for you to control and browse through playlists, artists, songs, etc. The only downside is that all the text and the interface are straight out of the 80's. It's more than functional though, so it's a minor quibble. And yes, the new Pioneer 1018 that I have will read off of any iPod and both generations of iPhone.

i dont think ive ever seen a "flush mounted" tv setup, it seems 99.99% are put on a brackets connected to the wall and then have a hole drilled behind it for wires? they look fine to me, my uncle has it wall mounted and it looks great. ill be honest i think it would look better without a frame then with the frame (especially with an elite which is one of the best looking tvs out there). i mean with that setup you should be running everything into a receiver, then having it output one hdmi cable to the tv. So that means you would have two cables "visible" behind the tv when people walk in: a power cord, and an hdmi cable, which is really minimalistic and i would think more pleasing than a painted plywood frame.

You could get a 6-10' section of rope lighting and run it around behind the TV. It'll be cheap, and give a nice consistent halo of light.

I have a cheap rope light from Home Depot i use. It's about 2 years old and only about 1/4 of the rope still works, but since it's bunched up on the back of my TV it still looks fine and gives a nice, even light. It's pretty warm colorwise though, definitely warmer than the 6500k most people recommend, but i think it looks a lot better that way as 6500k is pretty sterile, atleast with a white wall.

I actually looked into this when I was toying around with the idea of building my own entertainment center and I still am actually. I wanted to figure out a way to keep my Xbox360 from over heating. What i figured was a few 120mm case fans for a computer and somthing like this to power them: http://www.power101.com/item.htm?fr=fr&id=60228&sh=2611 Cut two proper size holes in the back of the entertainment stand where the DVR is in each side and set one to pull air in and one to push it back out. Just splice of the end and wire it all up and make sure you cover the wire really well with some shrink tubing and you should be good.

EDIT: quick ms paint to show you what im talking about as far as the setup goes

Nevermind I just realized the back of your stand is completely open. I suppose you could do a push and pull similar to a PC case and put the fans on either side of the DVR and pull air through the right side of the entertainment center to the left but I dont know how effective it would be with an all open back

It is a Birch plywood with hemlock facing. It was all made with a skill saw and really simple construction. No real jointing so to speak, just wood glue, some nails and bracing. It is finished with a ridiculous amount of a dark cherry stain(forget the actual color) and a lacquer. The feet are part of my little secret - random ikea parts. I wanted those legs, and it looked like I was going to have to spend 50 dollars per piece just for the legs if I ordered them online.

I learned a long time ago that the coolest thing about ikea is the fact you can just buy parts of furniture. Those are riser legs for their kitchen cabinets. I remembered seeing them so I bussed down and picked up all 8 of them for less than twenty bucks. Ill throw in some picks later. The construction is almost embarrassing really. I didn't have any real tools or space so it is like kindergarden carpentry.

THANKS. I've been thinking about changing the cotton pieces. I've been told that they are there to dampen the reflection in the wood in front/below the tweeters. I tried taking it off, and the treble was really terrible.

I just emailed the guy on the site you linked to. Hopefully this can make the speaker sound better:)
