All I need is the basic setup, everything else is fluff and usually completely obvious to the audience anyway. I mixed a badass house mix last weekend and I'm still waiting on the recording from that. I'll post it when I get it, but it's easily one of the most fun mixes I've ever done.

All my music is on a file server and I take all the albums and singles I think I'll need, which always leads to me not having the jam I want. Its really bad if I had misjudged the party I was going to spin and didn't bring all my 90s radio classics

It's all on my laptop and backed up on an external drive and audio CDs, but I don't take the hard drive with me unless I'm going to record the set. I organise it with iTunes in a similar way to how the guy on djtechtools.com does it.

I've undertaken a project to do 21 mixes in a chapter like form, all introducing them with quotes from the Christopher Hitchens book "God Is Not Great". It may seem quirky but I think it's cool and its no big deal since its just the first 30 or so seconds of each mix. Anyways, here is the first: CHAPTER 01 - Putting It Mildly http://www.zshare.net/audio/56826806ccaf3f0e/ :-------: 89 Mb - 37:52 :------: Marco - Carola - Plaster - Original Mix (Digital Only) Mr. Statik - Shadow Choker - Kreon Shadow Gagger Mix D-Unity - Nikos Toscani & Will Monotone Remix Spencer Parker - Zanzibar - Nick Curley Remix Faithless - Music Matters feat. Genre(s): Progressive/Tech-house/Techno/Electro/Disco ... Length: 79:48 Quality: 320 kbps Size: 183 MB This is a mix that has been sitting around for weeks unfinished, contemplating what had to be done for me to be happy enough to make it public. In a week of many (12+ at least) long hours back with Ableton, my MIDI controllers, and a few healthy meals to keep me going I was able to refine the track selection to its now final form, listed below. The mix is also to be passed out at SXSW to promote my new joint-venture promotions crew/future record label antipraxis (as well as my own solo work I do suppose) that I'm starting with a friend. [Going to see Claude VonStroke downtown tonight after my co-host and I do our radio show =) ]. [Right-click on the image above and click "Save Link As" to download the 320kbps mp3] Tracklisting: 1. Waldorf - You're My Disco (Original Mix) 2. Metronomy - Heartbreaker (Kris Menace Remix) 3. Jaytech - Nemesis (Original Mix) 4. Robert Babicz - Don't Look Back (Original Mix) 5. Claes Rosen - Prixter (Original Mix) 6. Ame - Rej (A Hundred Birds Remix) 7. Audiojack - Schizophonic (Original Mix) 8. Underworld - Holding The Moth (Audiojack Mix) 9. Monojoke - Horizontal Glide (Nicholas Van Orton Remix) 10. Jaytech - Headcase (Original Mix) 11. Dousk - Blender (Original Mix) 12. Radiohead - Reckoner (James Zabiela's Tweezers on a Towel Rail Mix) 13. Ahmet Sendil - Are Your Kisses Dynamite (Original Mix) 14. Seva K - Far Away (Original Mix) This mix has been in the works for far too long now as I mentioned, but ultimately the work paid off with a truly solid mix I feel tells a deep story/or a vignette of sorts at the least (great track by Seva K by the way... "Vignette"). Note: Don't be too thrown off in the beginning because the mix starts off with two very disco-y tracks (which I suppose will be received differently depending on who you are...), but quickly evolves into something else altogether and could maybe somewhat be described with tags like house, techno, deep, and progressive at times, past the mostly disco teaser(s). She then steams along to the powerful climax a little past the halfway point, and finally finds its way to a place far away from where it started, precisely with Seva K's track "Far Away." I hope you enjoy this mix as much as even I do now that it's done and I finally feel decent about it. {{links to this mix and more, along with some SXSW updates and goodies at my personal site counterlogic.net and antipraxis ...}} Counterlogic fucked around with this message at 05:59 on Mar 17, 2009 |

Genres: Tech and Prog for the end of civilization Length: 71:27 Quality: 192Kbps Size: 98 MB I was trying to put together a loving-on-the-beach set for some friends of mine, but was really vibin' on a tech-house tip, so this is what happened. The original mix had a chill dubstep intro, but it clashed and I couldn't figure out how to make it work. Also I forgot 3 tracks. After spending a couple hours in Ableton, it seems to be listenable. Here it is, in its full length glory: Glyph - Urban Decay There's a bass flip about halfway through that sucks, but I can't be bothered to fix it. Tracklist: 16 Bit Lolitas - More Horizons Lewie Day - The Thousandth Typhoon Etiket - Revelation Manuel Tur - Vabanque(Stimming Remix) Jerome Sydenham & Tiger Stripes - Elevation(Ink & Needles Remix) Shlomi Aber & Itamar Sagi - Blonda(Funk D'Void Remix) Sidekick - Deep Fear(Alberto Fracasso Remix) Robert Babicz - Enjoy Kriece & David Basek - Girl Fight(Stallos Remix) M.I.D.I. & Mowree feat. Valika - Touch Me(Dub Touch Remix) Biologik - Liberty Heights Any and all feedback is appreciated. I hope you enjoy it.

New Mix. This one is a tad strange. And I really like how it turned out. I did some pretty long transitions (4+ min) and it also has some breaks etc. that might have one raising an eyebrow at certain times. If that happens though, I've achieved my goal. Genre-wise it's all minimal and tech-house tracks. Starts off a bit dark, but heads to become more funky. Rivfader - "Wait, what? Oh. Uhm. Weird". Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. And the strangeness was mostly in the tracks and the effects indeed. I've found that it's become somewhat of a hate it or love it mix among most people I've given it to. I'm really enjoying weird tracks more and more. gently caress standard mix-moments and obvious transition-spots, I'll mix this track when I want to, not when I'm supposed to.

Just figured I'd actually reply to this thread with some props to all the DJs. I'll usually swing by this thread every two months and grab everything that's still available for download and fill my phone up. The 35-45 minute long mixes are great for my Bus -> Metro -> Walk commute twice a day, as I can usually listen to a new one in the morning and afternoon. Specific props, with laziness on my part so I'm only going by the information in the tags AND I'm working backwards: Opulence - Free Charles Barkley is loving fantastic. Had me forcibly restraining myself from dancing on the metro. Bones - Your poo poo lately is as impressive as always. Good, solid, well-flowing mixes. Scott Jackson, whoever you are, - Good stuff. Short and to the point, I can usually wrap up one of your sets on my commute. The rest of you guys I haven't named - keep up the good work. I honestly can't say I've heard a bad mix from this thread. I'm in DC, so if any of you are spinning at any gigs around here anytime soon, I'd love to catch you in person.

drat, I wish I had discovered this thread sooner. I've been DJing for 10+ years - Vinyl for 8 of those years, went digital with an iBook and Traktor 2 and finally settled on Live 7 w/ a MIDI contoller. I don't play out these days, but I still do many mixes in an effort to get a good library of stuff together that I can revisit for years to come. Here's a Tech-House/Trance/Progressive/Dub/wtf? mix for you. Apologies for the generic name, but I haven't had motivation to do a concept. http://the-psychologist.com/mixes/minitechlectro08192008.mp3 lame api 2+ hours 315MB artists include: Trentemoller, Apparat, Joris Voorn, Vibrasphere, Ticon, Extrawelt, lots more I wish I had left out the Audiojack remix, but otherwise it may be the best mix I've ever done. I may get laughed out of SA for this, but here's a UK Hardcore/Trancecore mix that showcases a few artists from the late 90s who pushed the boundaries of the style in a huge way. If you cannot deal with 180 BPM and occasional uplifting piano, then stay away. But overall it's a filthy, melodic, cerebral voyage through Helix, Fury and their many guises. It was basically a way for me to set down in stone the majority of their music and maybe turn on new people to what they did. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have been a fan of Helix, Fury and their many projects since the late 90s. They put out some of the most diverse and original Hardcore ever to grace my ears. Their music is a unique blend of Hardcore, Trance, DnB, Gabber and Acid, which is rounded out by some straight-up psychedelic synth usage. As a tribute, I assembled a 2+ hour mix through their music. I tried to showcase the tracks, but I did do some edits and sneaky mixes where needed to make it all work. I made sure to include all those freaky B-sides to help diversify a mix this long.
