Aah Funktion One, that is some amazing stuff.

Last year I got to hear a full F1 install similar to the one mentioned above in Berghain/Panoramabar (Berlin).
By far the best sound system I ever heared in a club. Loud and clear sound, makes music just sound better.

That's because of the genre you play. That pretty much requires you to do that, because a) most nu-disco/indie-dance/what-you-call-it tracks only last 4 minutes or so and b) it's what people who come out to hear that music expect more or less.

Deep House, along with many other genres such as progressive, minimal and certain types of techno work in a very different way. Most tracks last around 8 or 9 minutes and take at least 3 minutes to build to the point where they get interesting. Because of that you can, and have to, make really long transitions (slowly and very gradually blending in the new track, sometimes I take 4 minutes for a transition), which make it seem as if your tracks flow over in a very seamless manner.

It's a lot of fun to do, because you're constantly working your mixer, adjusting tiny bits on the EQ, slowly pushing the fader upwards, maybe using a slight delay effect on the incoming hi-hats of the new tracks etc, until the point where you have a nice break in which you can switch. And I usually keep the old track playing for around another minute or so.

With other genres of dance music, such as fidget, electro-house etc, the mixing style is very different. It's all about fast mixing, often making hard cuts and dropping in new tracks all of a sudden to create somewhat of a suprise effect and keep the dancefloor energetic. Usually these tracks tend to have 2 mixing spots, the first 32 bars and the last 32. After and before that many tracks are just too full of things going on (such as a dirty bassline, vocals, samples etc) to properly blend another track in. The risk one takes by blending here is to make the mix way to busy, making it sound like crap.

Tl;dr:

It all comes down to what genre you play and what style of mixing you find yourself enjoying.
Treating a deep house-track as if it's a pouding electro-house song, by doing quick beat-juggles and hard cuts, simply does not work.

Psytrance is the worst of both worlds--tracks are really long (usually 7-9 minutes but sometimes as long as 11 or 12), and you can't really blend them for longer than a minute or two because there's usually too much going on for most of the track.

Yeah psytrance can be pretty tough because pretty much every song starts with a rolling bassline + kick. If you take a decently resonant high-pass filter and put it over said bass and kick though it makes a kind of squelchy acid noise that you can put over another track until a simultaneous breakdown occurs and then you relase the filter to start the track.

P.S. I'm going to ULTRA in Miami this weekend and it's gonna be sick.

Some psy is even worse. For example, just about any track by Kindzadza has a glitchout, skipped bar, or extra bar that breaks phrasing just about every minute or two, so unless you're good with looping or can stop and then start the other track very accurately, you're kind of screwed.

e: 4 minutes per track. I don't think I could get it below that since that was ridiculous hard and time consuming. Psytrance is the hardest stuff to mix, as someone said. Most promos for psytrance I've listened to are 6 or 7 minutes per song, the key to mixing psytrance well is just picking songs that go extremely well together

No, I know what you mean. I tend to listen to my past sets a lot to pick apart what I can do better, etc (hey, I'm a perfectionist). As a result, whenever I listen to or hear any tracks I've used in prior sets, I always hear how the next mix goes in my head.
