This bar-end thing will take some pondering. I actually like the stock mirrors on my CB250, and can see a ton of road with only a slight flick of my eyes. I tried glancing down at my grips to get a feel for how tricky bar-ends would be, and it seems somewhat harder. I'll try out the stock mirrors on the Triumph (or whatever I end up upgrading too) first, and maybe get one cheapie bar-end just to feel out the principle before springing for a nice set. Quick one: I've heard the jokes about using Armorall and then sliding off the back of your seat, but what do you use to treat the vinyl seat of your bike? I'm about to sell my CB250, so thought that putting $10 in supplies and an hour of elbow-grease would pay off in terms of making a better visual impression when I sell it.

Where can I find a red circular lense like the one in this picture? That's off a GS500. I'm adding a new light to my own bike and I need one as close to that as possible. I just don't know where to even start looking.

About and inch long with a top that looks just like the ones if your picture. Two or three different colours as well. I assume they were for wiring up your own dash lights. I think they were in the trailer/wiring section. Edit: I think these were them but I swear there were a few different types.

I don't know of any other good places for that sort of thing around here except Forest City Surplus in London. They have all sorts of wacky poo poo and I wouldn't be surprised at all to find something like those indicators there.

I recently found out that the engine on my GS400 has an oil pressure switch, yet the bike never came with a light. What I'm trying to do is drill a hole through the black plastic case that fits between the gauges and mount my own light for it. I have both wires already (+ and -), I just need some sort of way to make a red light fit in the hole. Whether it be an entire LED assembly, or a lense cap + a bulb underneath, I dont care as long as it works and looks OK.

So how many of you wear something aside from boots while just doing some general commuting and puttin' around town? I'm not going to lie. I'm usually wearing my slip on shoes with pretty much no support. I have my slip on work boots which I wear sometimes that are much better than a flat sole shoe with no ankle support but I don't think they offer that much greater of protection. Granted, it's better than what I'm wearing now.  I hardly ever hit the freeways and if I do it's only for 2-4 miles. Granted, it only takes one time. Have a partner at work who almost had his foot amputated and pretty much tore everything off because he was wearing jack percels and dumped it because he got cut off on the freeway doing 80.

I wear Army style boots which also don't have any ankle protection except for good thick leather. I am looking into getting a new set of motorcycling boots but have dreaded doing the research. I probably need to wade into the gear thread one of these days and have a look at what people are wearing.

My brand new gladius is having occasional trouble shifting from second to third gear. I assume this is due to the new clutch cable stretching, so I adjusted it. Seems to be working better now. So the probably stupid question that I never got around to asking with the old bike: When you pull the lever, there's a part of the pull where the cable tightens up inside the housing, but the clutch hasn't released yet. You're supposed to adjust so there's like 1/8" of play in the lever. Should I be adjusting so that at rest, the cable is entirely slack (like the cable end is loose in the lever), or should the slack be removed, but it's 1/8" from when the clutch actually starts to disengage?

You want it adjusted so that there's no tension on the cable when the clutch lever is completely released. The 1/8th inch is just to make sure that people adjust it so that when you let go of the lever, the clutch is completely engaged. Bike transmissions can take a little while to break in as well.

I have a set of Sidi riding boots which have none of that armor or plastic cladding or whatever it is... just a round section of reinforced leather on the inside of the ankle. As long as you lace the boots up tight I figure they're fine for most riding. They'll give you extra support and tough leather offers all the abrasion resistance you need.

On the topic of boots, does anyone know a good LA area shop to try on a few pairs? The places I've been to usually have one or two pairs of trillion dollar Sidi robo-legs, a single pair of Joe Rocket "motorcycle shoes" (aka ugly sneakers) and motocross gear. I have yet to see anything in between. I've also yet to find a pair from new enough that fit, hence the need for someplace local.

Quick (tubeless) tire question: my rear has a definite leak around the valve stem, I checked it out with the old soap & water trick. Is there anything I can do to fix the leak temporarily enough to ride it home (~100km on <90km/h roads) that doesn't involve taking the whole wheel & tire off and replacing the valve stem, or is that simply the best thing to do? On a side note: I had been thinking about changing the tires out anyway for whatever reason even though there's plenty of tread left on both, and while troubleshooting this leak I finally looked up the DOT numbers to finally figure out the age of these things: almost 9 years! So I'm definitely looking to replace these soon as I can, but ideally not until I get it back to my place and out of my parents' garage

Are chains supposed to make noise around the front sprocket? I just put a new chain on my GS400 and when I turn the back wheel, the chain makes a.. Not really a grinding noise but more of a knocking/rapping/tapping noise around the front sprocket. Is it just chain noise? I don't think the chain is rubbing on anything, as it's the exact same chain as specified (530 104 link). The sprocket is 1 tooth smaller (15T). Could it just be regular chain noise? Googled a bit and read a review promoting Turtle Wax Clear Guard, which apparently is non-slippery. Any last minute recommendations before I go buy this stuff tomorrow?

Have not tried it myself, but apparently 303 Aerospace Protectant is like gods gift to vinyl. A little google-fu says it's non-slippery so long as you don't overapply and get a film left behind on the seat... I actually have two bottles of this stuff and I was going to use it on the dash of my car, but have not gotten around to it yet.
