What's the best deal anyone's found on a windshield for an NB? Mine is reaching the point of being unsafe. Well, hell, so are the tires, gently caress the shops around here for not stocking poo poo in 205/40/16

Hopefully one of the posters more well-versed in the way of the snail will correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible for a failed turbo to send lots of metal shards straight into your intake and/or oil, so that a failed turbo could turn into a grenaded engine? Not that a 1.8L longblock is hard to find or expensive, but I'm just saying. I'd also be lying if I said I didn't think a cheap NA + Chinacharger kit didn't sound like a hell of a good time to me.

So, what suspension upgrade would people suggest on a 96 NA with 116k miles? I've been driving the wife's car more since we moved to DC, and I think the original shocks are shot, which is probably to be expected since they're original. I'm going to try and replace them myself at a local Miata tech day despite not having done much wrenching at all, but I've got to learn some time. I'm not looking for a time attack autocross monster, more something that can cope with DC's roads without wanting to rattle loose everything in the car. Can I keep the stock springs and just replace the shocks/dampers? Or should I do both springs and shocks? Tokico Illuminas? KYB AGXs?

You can do stock springs with Tokico Illuminas and Fat Cat Motorsports bump stops and it should be pretty comfortable. The general consensus I've found over on miata.net is that Illuminas are preferred over KYB AGX or Bilstein HD. Apparently the stock valving for NA Bilstein HDs sucks and the ride is very rough. edit: NONE of this is based on personal experience.

Look into Fat Cat Motorsports shock mounts too for additional suspension travel and a slight drop of about 1/4"-1/2".

My 95 has the ~$400 tokico illumina kit that includes springs. Car is a lot more fun than stock, pretty much eliminates body roll and makes the car feel like a go cart. Downside is the car is quite low and I've gotten complaints from girls getting headaches from the bumpiness. The bumpiness doesn't bother me but I'm a 20 year old guy without any back pains or anything. I'd suggest definitely keeping the stock springs if you worried about ride quality. While I'm posting I'd like to post the for sale page I made for the car for anyone in the Midwest area interested in mechanically perfect 1.8l NA. I have two cars and need to get rid of it. Hopefully this isn't against the rules? If it is I apologize and will remove. Also posting in AI marketplace http://babbage.cs.missouri.edu/~jftbn8/miata/ I'm asking $4000 but will let it go for $3500 to a goon. I'm working on cleaning it up and possibly replacing the top, but I'm hoping to find someone who cares about all the mechanical work done to it first and appearance second... Would be a perfect candidate for forced induction.

Stupid question. What is the name or part number of the bit that covers the soft top ribs? One of my three is missing. Also after I get it, what should I use to glue it to the top so it doesn't inflate on the highway?

Does anyone know around how much it costs for a new drivers side window? My car was broken into. I live in a dorm and someone who lives in the same dorm as me smashed in my window. Luckily someone was working on their car saw it happen and talked to me when I came down to my car. I called the police and they managed to find the kids that did it.

Yeah, stiffer isn't what this car needs, but decent damping is what I'm after.

I did stock springs, Fat Cat Progressive bumpstops for added travel and comfort with boots, and Tokico Illuminas. It's very nice for our lovely rear end roads. I recommend it. I DD my car 365 days a year and it sees winters. I've had the setup for an entire year now. I do about 5-10 autocrosses a year.

How much did all of this set you back? The shocks on my '99 are certainly originals with over 100k on the clock now and I wouldn't mind going through the rest of the car to freshen it up now that I've taken care of the major engine maintenance.

Make sure you get enough spacers though. Wouldn't want to internally bottom out those shocks!

Best price on labor in Massachusetts I can find for a soft top replacement is $450. That's JUST for labor; other shops seem to go from $500-700(!!). Online messageboards seem to indicate this is slightly high; am I just reading really old posts?

I bought a Robbins zipless glass top for like $425 from Moss Motors, and paid just under $500 to have it installed by the best specialist convertible shop in town. I swear people who post on messageboards ALWAYS underquote the price of EVERYTHING related to owning/maintaining/fixing a car. I don't know what it is, but I've never, ever seen prices out in the real world as low as people on messageboards talk about.

gently caress. I grabbed two new replacement rims and got a new set of Azenis for my 97. Now I have some shimmy at 65mph. Tires are smooth as glass at every other speed. I'm going to call the shop and see if they will have another go at re-balancing. Anything else I should double check on my own? Car has new discs/pads and year old shocks.

Is it normal for the center hump to be very, very warm? Not like super uncomfortably warm, but warm enough that, on a hot day, it would make the inside of the car sweltering hot? It was just a mild uncomfortable warmth today, but later this summer when it's 114F outside I'd really rather not be cooking alive.

There's a reason why it's warm: it's your transmission. It shouldn't make a huge difference in temps, but if it is warm, it means that the laws of energy are still good.
